Euphoria star Angus Cloud has passed away at the age of 25.

William Friedkin has passed away at 87.

That sucks. The Exorcist was an all-time favourite of mine. And lots of respect for The French Connection, Sorcerer, and Killer Joe. His new film plays in Venice next month. Shame he won't get to be there for it.

The French Connection and The Exorcist might be one of the best one-two punches from any filmmaker ever and the latter, along with The Godfather and Jaws, essentially helped create the modern Hollywood blockbuster. Friedkin was also the one filmmaker who could adapt Tracy Letts well.

If I were to dig through Fredkin's back catalog, which films would you guys recommend?

I'd say start with The French Connection and then The Exorcist, but I don't know how accustomed you are to the look, feel, and pace of the early 70s, so if you want a more modern entry point I'd recommend starting with Killer Joe.

Definitely. If you saw his name on a DVD commentary or roundtable discussion you knew it would be worth watching.
