Disney and Marvel May Reboot The Punisher Again

Post by Buscemi »

Lionsgate chose not to renew the film rights so Marvel has gotten them back. If a new movie happens, it will be the THIRD reboot of the character. Meanwhile, I don't think I have seen so much hate for the 2004 Punisher and so much love for Punisher: War Zone than on Deadline.

They need to stop rebooting these movies and just make them as sequels. Fans just want them to keep the films going and not keep doing the same origin story over and over. We know the fucking origin story, stop telling it a dozen times!

I wish that Thomas Jane and Jonathan Hensleigh would be allowed to make the Punisher 2 that they wanted to make (but couldn't because Lionsgate wouldn't give them the budget). They left because they wanted a $60 million budget and Lionsgate wanted to make it for half that (Punisher: War Zone cost $40 million and that includes overruns after the initial director was fired).

Interestingly enough, the Hensleigh Punisher cost only $15 million to make. Though some scenes were cut from the script due to budget, the film still looks like it cost more than that (due to visual effects trickery and because the film's setting was moved to Tampa due to state incentives).
