Here is why I don't think Easy A will do well:

-Emma Stone has never been the lead in a movie. In fact, she never really adds anything to a movie (kind of like Megan Fox).
-The last time that someone attempted a Scarlet Letter adaptation, it was a critical and box office disaster (the Demi Moore version from 1995).
-Sony has Resident Evil opening the week before, Woody Allen's You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger a week after and The Social Network two weeks after. With four movies in four weeks, Sony will most likely focus on Resident Evil and The Social Network (The Social Network is even opening the New York Film Festival, which is a pretty important distinction).
-The director also did Fired Up, which grossed only $20 million with a PG-13 rating. Easy A is also rated PG-13.

Also NSpan, Betty White is a meme that works and keeps going. Look at all of the Emmys she's won!

Regarding the success of the SNL episode, I attribute 33% to Mother's Day, 33% to nostalgia, 33% to "ironic" appreciation, and 1% to the quality of the performance.
On the run from Johnny Law ... ain't no trip to Cleveland.

But how do you explain the four Emmy nominations of the episode?

Ratings and hype.

I've never paid attention to the Emmy's--but I take them even less seriously than the Oscar's (which is to say: not much).
