Most of my choices for what to watch this Halloween have already been mentioned (and special nod to NSpan's picks, they'd be ideal) but these are some of the movies which I would find essential viewing for this Saturday:

Alien
An American Werewolf In London
Night Of The Living Dead
Dawn Of The Dead
The Shining
Psycho
The Evil Dead
Braindead (Dead-Alive)
Shaun Of The Dead
Jaws
Suspiria
The Thing
28 Days Later
Rosemary's Baby
The Birds
Don't Look Now
Scream
Creature From The Black Lagoon
The Wicker Man
Cape Fear
The Cabinet Of Dr.Caligari

And add to that a few of my own personal pleasures which may be worth a look in:

Eyes Without A Face
And Soon The Darkness
The Silence
The Shout
Stalker
Eraserhead
Peeping Tom
Tenebre
Hour Of The Wolf
Macabre
The Exterminating Angel
Repulsion
The House With Laughing Windows
Let's Scare Jessica To Death
Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark
Session 9
Shallow Grave
Scanners
American Psycho
The Innocents
Slither
[REC]
Das Experiment
The Devil's Backbone
The Orphanage

That's probably enough....

Caligari--nice one. Though i'd be hesitant to recommend it to anyone other than movie-buffs and film-historians... (maybe theater kids and art majors?)

I know those early horror movies made the new ones possible but oh man are they boring. Watched the '31 Dracula last night. It is 75 minutes of bad acting, plastic bats and Lugosi glaring at the screen. I can handle the bad FX, but there was no atmosphere to the movie. I am floored that Tod Browning's Dracula was as plain as it was. M and Freaks were around the same year (31 and 32) and both were immensely more horrific and tense. Hell, Browning directed Freaks a year later. Maybe he learned tension in that off season.

Dracula keeps the vampire movie unscary in my experience and I still think Salem's Lot is the only actually scary vampire movie I have ever seen. It was made for TV 30 years ago. :(

Donte, watch the Spanish Dracula that was shot at the same time on the same sets as the 1931 Dracula. That version is a half hour longer and contains more plot development and better acting. In my opinion, it is one of the best Universal Monsters movies.
Everything on this post is strictly the opinion and only the opinion of Buscemi.

That version was included in the version I bought along with a docu about Universal monster movies hosted by Kenneth Brannaugh. Maybe I will give it a try.

Have you seen Cronos? I love that take on the vampire movie. One of Del Toro's best. Not exactly scary but a great movie.

28 Days Later and The Dawn Of The Dead remake proably. Not a huge horror fan for the most part.

haha. it's not Patrick Swayze, it's the new version of "yearbookyourself.com"... it's my face, but with the default '96 'class picture' providing ears, hair, and neck... (i guess that's how the Flock of Seagulls guy is getting work nowadays)
