Great to see Lorcan back in Cannes. Really hope The Surfer does well for him.

That's a solid and intriguing enough line-up so far. Curious to see what will appear at the Director's Fortnight and Critic's Week too.

MUBI has taken the worldwide rights to The Substance ahead of its debut at Cannes next week. Hope this one find its way to a theater in my area at some point.

Re: 2024 Festivals/Awards Thread
Going Universal to MUBI feels like a sign that it's a very niche film. In addition, the casting choices give it a very straight-to-VOD quality, even with the Cannes premiere.

Re: 2024 Festivals/Awards Thread
Megalopolis got the expected divisive reactions out of Cannes with the only common overlap between the two sides pointing out just how weird it is. Gauging the reactions once its regular rollout begins in the fall should be entertaining.

Re: 2024 Festivals/Awards Thread
I'd be surprised if any major distributor is willing to meet Coppola's P&A demands of $80-100 million. A merely average sci-fi film with actors who are box office poison (Driver, Plaza, LaBeouf) won't sell outside of filmbros and with a lot of the on-set rumors about Coppola in addition to Coppola's ego getting in the way of things, will any one outside of the fringier labels even want the film?

PALM D'OR WATCH: Neon has acquired the North American rights to The Seeds of the Sacred Fig ahead of its premiere on Friday
Elsewhere, Emilia Perez seems to be the 1st competition that's dazzled the audience.
