Well don't repeat that to anyone in Paris, but I do sometimes watch films on Netflix. But I will deny it if someone asks me of course.

Having just seen The Delinquents, I'll be joining Chien's claim that it's one of the best films of the year.

We won't be agreeing on Indiana Jones 5, however.

I wasn't too enthusiastic about The Delinquents.

It's not for everyone, I get that. But I loved its simplicity in style, and its twist from something mildly genre to having a deeper message about human desire and the meaning of contentment. In many ways it reminded me of Aki Kaurismaki film's, which often do that (like Lights in the Dusk), although The Delinquents is much slower and deliberately pastoral.

I can't stand Indiana Jones 5, I probably dislike it more than most people, who seemed to be largely indifferent about it. To me it represents everything that's wrong with these decades later legacy sequels, basically the complete opposite of Top Gun: Maverick. As badly as they've aged for me, I'd rather rewatch the Star Wars sequel trilogy over IJ5 honestly.

What's the original title of The Deliquents ? I don't remember recommending it

As for Indy 5, in France we loved it

Ah I was mistaken, you didn't list it, I confused it with the other really long critically acclaimed South American film Trenque Lauquen (which I havent' seen).

I'm surprised you liked The Killer and Smoking Causes Coughing. Haven't seen the latter (the film played a grand total of two days in my area) but Dupieux can be a frustrating filmmaker at times.

And it looks like we agreed on Maestro.

Meanwhile, you have a new follower. Marvel as I more than likely pan most of your favorite movies. ;)

Really? Fincher is one of my favorite directors and I love absurdist comedy and Dupieux is generally great at that.

And thanks for the follow. I'll follow you back shortly.

I would have figured you wouldn't have been much for the philosophical elements of The Killer. Also, audience response seemed to be rather mixed as it wasn't sure if it wanted to be a violent revenge film or a character study on the loneliness of assassins.

As for Smoking Causes Coughing, I just figured it wasn't really your kind of movie for some reason.

I'm surprised at that Godzilla Minus One ranking, it seems like nearly everyone swears that it's a masterpiece and one of the best of the year. I'll have to catch it on streaming ASAP. Also, I do have Letterboxd but I've been too lazy to keep it up to date lately.

Nico was kind of mixed on Godzilla Minus One, even though he gave it a 7. I gave it the same score, calling it better than Shin Godzilla not quite at the level of the original Gojira.
