That Wish nomination looked suspect. But remember, these are the same people who nominated multi-Razzie winner Music for Best Picture a few years back.

As for Dead Reckoning, I'm thinking it might have been done to retroactively recognize Top Gun: Maverick's box office success. But as it's clearly a popularity category, I'd expect it be one of several wins for Barbie.

I'm surprised someone remembered Are You There, God? It's Margaret. This one was pretty much DOA at the box office.

And Rustin feels like it's been completely forgotten, after only getting some praise out of Toronto.

And yet it's topping the lists in Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. From here it looks like a generic teen movie, so curious what the critics see in it.

The great reviews encouraged me to check it out when it was released in April and I'm glad that I did. While it wasn't fully my cup of tea, it's a really well-written/acted, unique coming-of-age story. Kelly Fremon Craig is a gifted filmmaker that will hopefully continue to get gigs despite its dismal BO performance.

The gap between The Edge of Seventeen, another film that critics loved but audiences ignored, and Margaret was seven years. Unless an indie label or streaming service pays attention or James L. Brooks wants to make another movie, it's highly unlikely Craig gets a third feature and probably ends up having to retreat to television/streaming shows. It seems like you can only work steadily as a director in Hollywood if your movies make a profit, the Internet loves you, or you're an actor who wants to direct.

The Boys in the Boat is out of the race. Early reviews are pretty much what I expected them to be: very mixed.

Clooney as a director seems to have really coasted over the past decade or so.

Meanwhile, it looks like Rebel Moon Part I just became the favorite to win Worst Picture at the Razzies. This would be Netflix's third consecutive Worst Picture winner if this does happen.

Even on paper boys on the boat looked like weak sauce. George hasn't directed a decent film since confessions of a dangerous mind

The trailer showed the entire movie in two minutes but I know some were expecting it to be good because of the book's success.

The Color Purple finally had its embargo lifted. General consensus states it to be good (70 on Metacritic) but not great, basically.

I wouldn't have expected an Adam Sandler movie to premiere at Berlin.

They'll probably just give Best Sound to Oppenheimer anyway, as the loudest movie tends to win in most years.

Barbie will now compete for the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar despite campaigning for Best Original Screenplay.
