I was laid off right before this all took a massive step forward, and then I had a part-time gig lined up but that place is now closed indefinitely. So not really great for me. Only silver lining is a lot of companies are issuing hardship extensions due to the pandemic, which is a huge help for me.

I don't know if this UBI that the Republicans are proposing is real or not, but it would sure as shit help me right now.

All of my credit card companies gave me a few months of non-payment to account for all of this, as well as my car note. So if anyone else is kinda strapped by this, make sure to call companies and ASK FOR HARDSHIP!

On a brighter note, all this free time has allowed me to begin re-setting up my streaming equipment. So if anyone is into Fortnite or Call of Duty, I'll probably be streaming sometime soon over at https://www.twitch.tv/spider______pig/

That sucks, Banks, but it sounds like even Republicans are starting to embrace socialist policies to help people weather the storm.

It all seems pretty strange thinking of countries in lock down and what not, as for me at the moment life is running close to normal for me, at least for the most part. In my work I have been instructed that I need to divide our team up into two teams so that we are not infecting each other, while if anyone we live with gets any of the symptoms, our entire household has to self isolate for 14 days. But to be driving to and from work with people just walking into the city feels very remote from Chien's totalitarian state.

For the foreseeable future I seem to have a job, I can do what I do in small teams and I am deemed to be essential for the business, but obviously things are changing on a day by day basis at the moment so I am not resting on my laurels.

Food shopping has, as with everywhere, gone a little mental, but we batch cook most of our meals so have at least a couple of weeks worth in our freezer already and mostly buy fresh so not shortage of the things we need. The only real change has been my barely existant social life, as the only things I do outside of home and work are gigs and movies, both which have taken an indefinite vacation. My holiday to Belgium is looking unlikely, just waiting for confirmation of its cancellation.

I feel for a lot of the smaller businesses around here, Boris won't shut anything down so business are either closing down and not getting their insurance money that they would receive if they were forced to, or they are limping along trying to attract whatever custom they can and mostly resorting to take away services to survive.

It's a very strange world we live in right now. I'm thankful that my life hasn't been affected as much as many, but it's still an uncertain future ahead of us.

I work in the medical field (Physical therapy, to be exact), so while I expect the clinics we bill for will be experiencing a drop off in appointments, my job is secure for the time being. I'm far more worried about my wife, who has been a receptionist for PING Golf Clubs for 15 years. I don't imagine buying sporting equipment is high on anyone's list right now (are golf courses even still open? I have no idea, honestly... it does seem like one of the safer sports people can still play)... she hasn't been given any news of a shutdown, though I spend every day waiting for that particular shoe to drop.

If she suddenly finds herself unemployed, I pray that she can use her years of experience to find work elsewhere. Failing that, we'll take whatever help the government (and my family) can give us.

Food and TP shortages abound here, of course. Thankfully, most fast food places are still open (drive thru and carry out only), and Subway is still open too. I have already memorized when my local grocery and drugstores get their shelves restocked so I can be there on time to buy certain key items. So far, it's worked... we're well stocked on TP, paper towels and bottled water. If the water runs out, my mom bought us a filtration-pitcher so we can safely drink tap water.

I know the CDC said the pandemic could last as long as 18 months, but then I hear news that a vaccine may be available in as little as two weeks. Not sure which to believe, but I do my best every day to keep a brave face without losing my damn mind.

This music countdown is REALLY helping. Gives me something to focus on. Thanks to all of you for helping me stick with it.

They've been testing a vaccine in Washington but it's only in clinical trials and even if it's successful (I'm not expecting a high batting average with the temporary solutions), it's only in limited quantities for now.

Reading about the surge in new cases and the report that 56% of Californians might have it in two months, combined with the lack of recoveries, is making my depression kick in more than usual. I have seasonal affective disorder and it's Spring now but I'm too scared to leave my own home. Between there being nothing to do and how just merely going outside could possibly kill me, I understand what it must have been like during the Spanish influenza panic. And make matters worse, those I live with won't stop watching the news. They know the news upsets me and that I can't really do anything, not even eat, when I hear it. Outside of their retirement, it's like they aren't even fazed by all of it.

I don't want to die. And I'd like a pizza, preferably fresh, and some frozen custard. And some Ann Rule books.

I wouldn't fret about it killing you. You're not in the risk age group of over 70. And even with any underlying health conditions (asthma, diabetes) you're young enough.

Also, it's worth pointing out that every strategy regarding self-isolation and social distancing isn't to avoid getting it. that's almost inevitable. It's to spread it out as much as possible in order to not overwhlem the health service.

Finally, self-isolation doesn't mean never going out. It means keeping a distance from people. Even in countries of lockdown people are allowed visit parks and open spaces as long as they keep their distance.

Yeah, I wouldn't get yourself into a state, Boushh, I would say you are very low risk. I think it's more the self isolation is in place to prevent you spreading it to those in the higher risk group. Just try to remain calm and focus on what you can do. I'm sure the US is not on complete lockdown yet so go for a walk in the park, watch some dvds, try not to think about it too much.

Schools have just shut down in the UK, so that is starting to have a impact on some. Luckily my wife is home with the baby anyway so won't affect my work commitments, though it may affect her sanity!

The isolation is mostly to slow the spread of infection to the point where it doesn't overwhelm hospitals. That's the "flatten the curve" that everyone keeps talking about. I think they're expecting a ton of people in the country to get this, they just don't want it happening all at once. If the number of cases spike and hospitals aren't able to accommodate them, not only will more people get critical and die but it'll also prevent them from being able to take care of people suffering from other ailments. My mother-in-law is an ICU nurse and she said they've been trying to open additional beds in anticipation of the spike. It's coming, we just have to hope that it doesn't overwhelm things.

I wouldn't worry personally Boosh, you're in the low risk group. That said, I'm keeping myself and my family largely quarantined just for the sake of not spreading it around to the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions. Those are the people who are at a danger to die from this and I wouldn't want to be the cause of it.

Yeah, well, I'm 50, I have asthma, hypothyroid and two kinds of cancer. I'm not saying catching COVID is a death sentence for me, but...

Italy has just crossed 4 000 deaths, more than in China, that's crazy. China and Korea managed to control the pandemic, but in Europe the numbers won't go down. More than 600 death just yesterday in Italy.
I was on the phone earlier today with a friend of mine who told me he had left his kids with their grand parents, and he and his girlfriend were planning to go visit them tomorrow. I was so mad at him. "Are you fucking kidding me ?? 1. You shouldn't have left your kids with their grandparents, 2. now that they are there, don't go visit them, stay put and let them stay put."
I love my countrymen but sometimes I just wish we were more disciplined in certain situations...

I've been confined for 4 days now, and every doctor says it's gonna last at least 4 weeks, probably 6.

I've seen friends on Instagram taking pictures of their kids outdoors. I feel like any day now, I'm going to become one of those "quarantine shaming" people. I get that kids don't understand what's happening and they need to let off some steam but still.

Well, I found out today that there was a confirmed case at the campus where I work, so the last few hours have been fun. Apparently the person hasn't been here for 8 days, so that's good news, but lots of other people have been working in the same area since then. They had the fucking gall to tell someone to send the cleaners to the affected area without telling them why, but I'd already warned the cleaners. If they give me shit for that, fuck 'em.

I'm not going to lie, I have and will be taking our kids out as long as we are not on lockdown. We are maintaining safe distance from others when out, today we took a walk along the old Roman walls of our city and were completely alone for the 1 hour walk, while the National Trust park lands are open and we will be making full use of them also.

Despite the best intentions, keeping two kids in a house for at least a couple of weeks will be nigh on impossible. We are avoiding grandparents and have told them to stay safe. As long as we take precautions and until we are told otherwise, this I think is OK. Shame me all you want.
