Time for one more Best Picture nominee. Have not had the opportunity to write it up myself, so wonderfully stolen for a reputable news source!

Waves

After disturbing us all with survivalist thriller It Comes at Night in 2017, Texan film-maker Trey Edward Shults – still just 31 – steps up his already impressive game with this vehemently acted and formally audacious drama about an African American family in Miami. It is a parable of redemption, and about a kind of spiritual or metaphysical resonance between the unhappy lives of two siblings.

There are big scenes, big performances, big emotions here, and audiences will have to recalibrate their antennae for these, especially for the stunning shock that arrives around halfway through. The waves of emotion can get very high, yet they bring exaltation with them.

Ugh Joaquin Phoenix...

Moving on, surprised to see Lupita and Taylor Russell win two times over.

Rather Joaquin Phoenix win than say, Gary Oldman or Casey Affleck.

Not taking about character of the actor, just the performance. Found his performance in Joker (as well as every frame of the film) to be fucking insufferable.

You're not going to want to know my opinions on Adam Driver's performance in Marriage Story then.

Hahaha, that's not the French poster for Parasite, that's a parody poster made by the French distrib to mock French comedy posters, it only circulated on Twitter for fun.

And so, probably my quickest award ceremony ever as it is almost 1am here and I have been awake since about 4:30am yesterday. So I am pretty much done for the night. But not before the biggest award of the evening. We have been hearing the virtues of each of our Best Picture nominees all evening from our valued committee and now, we pit them all against each other and see who comes out on top.

Best Picture

And the nominees are...

Booksmart
Jojo Rabbit
Little Women
Marriage Story
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
Parasite
Portrait Of A Lady On Fire
Uncut Gems
The Lighthouse
Waves

And the winner is....
