Reel Society Of Film Critics Awards 2020 - The Nominees

Post by silversurfer19 »

Once again, can I thank all to the members of the committee for submitting your nominations, the first round of votes are now complete and we have our nominees for the Reel Society Of Film Critics Awards 2020!

Between now and March 7th you have the opportunity to submit your final round of votes that will reveal the winners of the awards on Sunday March 8th. Remember you will now be voting on a sliding scale of 5-1 in order of preference, other that in the Best Picture category which will follow the same format, but be on a scale of 10-1. 10 would be your first choice, and then sliding down to your least favourite. You do not have to award a score to every movie, and you need only award what you feel necessary (ie. you can vote just three movies if you like, with one movie a 10, another an 8 and another a 3). If you have any queries on this please let me know.

I will also use this opportunity to ask the committee to put themselves forward for a featurette on one of the Best Picture nominees. If you would like to do one, and it need be no more than a couple of sentences if that's all you can think of, that will be great.

Thanks Surfer ! That's a very interesting set of nominees.
I'dbe honoroued to write the featurette on Parasite of course, if it's ok with everyone (or else I can take Portrait of a lady on fire). Korean and French are my specialty so either other one I'll be glad.

Good set of nominations, best supporting actor is gonna be one close race. I really like how Alita got a nom for best visual effects.

I can do a write up for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, though if someone else feels strongly about that one i can do The Lighthouse instead. (and yeah, i think its more than suitable for Chien to do Parasite)

I'll be catching up on those i've missed over the next week, thanks ss :)

Very interesting and surprising set of nominees. Good to see Uncut Gems, The Lighthouse, Awkwafina, Lupita Ny'ongo and Shia LaBeouf get recognition after they got snubbed for the bulk of awards season.

As for a featurette, I'll do Marriage Story

I have seven I haven't seen. I don't know if I'll be able to get to Portrait of a Lady on Fire. I haven't seen it anywhere around me. I should be able to knock the rest of them out via Netflix, HULU, and HBO.

Very interesting. Not surprised to see Parasite get acting nods, and very glad.

Surprised Little Women managed so many, I didn't know most of us had even seen it.

Disappointed at the lack of Honey Boy love, it was a real surprise for me and I wrote it in everywhere I could. Glad to see Shia, but I don't know how Noah Jupe doesn't get some recognition.

The Lighthouse and Waves snuck in there for Best Picture, huh. Didn't expect that for The Lighthouse - I haven't seen Waves yet so I'll withhold judgement there. But I will get it from Redbox this week.

Personally, I'm glad 1917 was regulated to the technical awards. It was a thrilling ride, but like other event movies, I can't see it having any replay value. A fancy, historical "Cloverfield".

Another surprise: Knives Out only getting a Screenplay nod.

Yeah, Portrait isn't playing anywhere near me either. Hope it continues to expand.

This surprised me as well. I'd imagine it was one of the more popular bubble picks though. Personally, I voted for it in 4 categories (Best Original Screenplay, Best Score, Ana de Armas in both Best Actress and Breakthrough Performance).

The only one left I could do a write-up for is The Lighthouse.

I'll cover Uncut Gems, tackling what I didn't get to cover in my review that got eaten by spotty coverage.

Portrait finally opens near me on Friday. I also found one of the local theatres is getting Onward on seven screens.

Same here. Not at THS’s theater that’s literally across the street from my work, but I can go an hour and fifteen minutes away.

Two theatres in a 10-15 mile radius in my area. Rare for a foreign language film here but recently, there were three theatres showing Parasite (which is still playing).

Also, Knives Out is entering its fourth month at the same theatre getting seven prints of Onward.
