James Bond 23 Pushed Back

Post by Buscemi »

Due to MGM's financial troubles and the lack of a buyer, the new James Bond movie will not be out in 2012.

That's a damn shame, not just about the movie, but the whole situation with MGM.

I'm now expecting Sony to buy the franchise outright. They collaborated on the last two Bond films and recently bought The Zookeeper from MGM. I could also see Sony buying other forthcoming MGM titles as well (such as The Cabin In The Woods, the United Artists half of The Hobbit, the Red Dawn and RoboCop remakes and even long on the shelf titles such as The Poughkeepsie Tapes).

it's such a shame, i remember the time when i would hear the lion roar, and i would sit up and think, 'oooh something good is about to come on'. wether it was cartoons or whatnot, i loved it, i thought it was just as iconic as the disney logo. Who's the douche that ran this company in the ground again? They should be flippin burgers (i'm pretty sure it wasnt just one singular person but a lot of people with plenty of bad mistakes, but still, such a waste)

A bunch of monkeys that call themselves venture captialists ran it into the ground. The only times that the company ever really well in the past twenty years were when they relaunched United Artists (and James Bond) and when Chris McGurk (now the head of Overture) was heading the film division (and the company often made profit despite only one-third of their movies breaking even due to focusing on good titles that could build on word of mouth and anticipation*).

*- movies like Legally Blonde (over $90 million US), Barbershop (over $60 million US), Hannibal (over $140 million US), Bowling For Columbine (over $20 million US and the biggest documentary of all-time at that point) and the Bond movies

I figured you'd say it was the Weinstein's fault just for the fun of it.

:)

Sucks. I was hopin' that JBXXIII would be a great trilogy-capper. I hope it gets revived soon.

I'd like to see an origins film happen in which the big secret (is James Bond one person or a code name assigned to different people?) is revealed. Also, I'd like to see how the people who became James Bond came to be.
