It's billed as a movie, so I don't see what the huge problem is. Making a movie that is a continuation of an established TV show is far from unprecedented and just because it was released on the same platform as the series doesn't make it a TV episode by default. Regardless, I doubt Bandersnatch will pick up enough momentum to be nominated.

Double-length episodes of TV shows have been billed as movies all the time. There was even those two Game of Thrones episodes that played in theatres a while back.

Bandersnatch isn't like say, something like Demon Knight where it really was a film version of a TV show. The Black Mirror crew did the same thing the year before making a feature-length episode to qualify for the Best TV Movie category at the Emmys. And then, no one said a thing as to whether it was a theatrical film or one made for TV.

Which is why I chose it

I don't care too much about it being nominated, just consider it a reminder from me for everyone to watch it! I've got all the endings but one so far, without looking closely at the decision trees out there.

How many frickin times did you rewatch it then?

Once I saw people putting up deciion trees my desire to rewatch was completely sated.

Whoever billed it as a movie is doing so to qualify it for some award. In fact, in some playthroughs it ends after 45 mins - not even close to the definition of a feature film. And I'm not even getting into the whole debate about whether an interactive TV episode/movie is a movie. Chien really will go medieval on us all.

But that's the point, it qualifies as a "TV movie" at best. It's not like that previous episode of Black Mirror (the excellent "USS Callister") qualified for the Oscars, so Bandersnatch shouldn't qualify for our little awards.

Curious about what you saw in Game Night that is a possible nomination. I almost put Instant Family specifically for the older kid as a supporting actress and figured there was something specific like that.

Somehow, Game Night was well regarded by critics and its success got its directors the Flash movie (though I'd be surprised if it turned out to be any good).

I found it to be a super clever, inventive and hilarious movie. While I'm not positive just how prevalent it's going to be on my ballot quite yet, it's definitely going to be among my Best Cast and Best Original Screenplay noms.

Game Night was really well done,m and would probably make the bottom half of my Top 10.

The effort behind it really is what's different, studio comedies are so incredibly lazy these days and have no imagination behind the camera. Game Night had board game easter eggs throughout and actually took time to stage some well executed set pieces.

Hiring real actors, as opposed to just hiring stand-up comedians or friends of the star, also helped. Rachel McAdams and Jesse Plemons were great gets.

Some interesting picks so far, should create a broad selection of genres for the Master List. Heads up that today is the last opportunity for you to submit your 5 essential movies before I announce the list tomorrow.

I hate to be the asshole who switches their list up at the last minute, but I just watched Mandy today and have to include it. I'll remove The Night Comes for Us since it's a martial arts movie that I'm only going to nominate for Best Foreign Language Film anyways.
