MOST ANTICIPATED FILMS OF 2019 (SPRING EDITION)

Post by numbersix »

Last year of the troublesome teens has begun. Here's what I'm looking out for.

Maybes: Glass, Pet Sematary, Gloria Bell, Greyhound
Seen and liked: Climax, Adult Life Skills, Under the Silver Lake, The Hummingbird Project

10. Captain Marvel
Yes, I know, I don't like the MCU. But it's their first female superhero movie and Brie Larson is always great to watch.

9. The Hole in the Ground
My homeboy Lee Cronin did good with this flick, from what I hear. Can't wait to see how it turned out.

8. The LEGO Movie 2
Lego Batman was a disappointment, but still hoping some of the subversive magic will be present in this sequel.

7. Everybody Knows
Asghar Farhadi hasn't made perfect movies, but they're almost always worth watching, and I expect this to be the same

6. High Life
Claire Denis doing an elevated sci-fi sounds like a must-see for me.

5. Lords of Chaos
Very intrigued by this death metal thriller.

4. The Kid Who Would Be King
Attack the Block was such genius that I'm signed on for any of Joe Cornish's features.

3. The Beach Bum
More Harmony Korine, please!

2. Us
What a trailer. Looks like lightning could strike twice for Jordan Peele

1. Birds of Passage
I adored Embrace of the Serpent and the reviews of this film, about a family involved in the Colombian drugs trade, have been nothing but positive.

Over to you guys.

I know about feeling left out not using A-List. I use it about ten times a month, but I’ve been out of town the last couple of weeks and probably won’t be able to hit anything this weekend.
Tenet: Criterion Edition. Now with more Backwards Man.

Velvet Buzzsaw might already be the worst title for a film this year. It sounds like bad porn or a terrible 90's arena rock group.

As for a list, I'm sure most of the wide releases are terrible and a lot of the good films either don't have dates or will get dumped into one or two theatres for a weekend.
It's like what Lenin said...I am the walrus.

i see someone decided to not have a new years resolution to have a more positive outlook on life.

My most anticipated list that we will probably go out to the theaters for.

1. Glass - I love Unbreakable, Split was entertaining, if not great. So while the trailers have been downright boring, i'm hoping it's because they are saving all the good parts.

2. Endgame - because ya have to, because ya watched all the other movies. on a side note, I'm writing a script where other innocent popcorn movies want to be in theaters, but superhero movies are the villain and are taking over the world.

3. Captain Marvel - because it only took 20 movies for Marvel to allow a women to lead one of their films, How many will it be before they allow a gay superhero? (also because ya have to, otherwise, she going to come save the avengers and we wont know who she is, (not like it'll matter, but we think it might))

4. Shazam - because my wife would cheat on me with Chuck

5. Alita: Battle Angel - because i love watching massive flops at the theater

Alright, let's do this !

I've already seen and highly recommend the following :
Under the silver lake (one of my favorite films of 2018), High Life, Sauvage (a small and intense French film).
I've already seen Farhadi's Everybody Knows, which was... I don't know, there is good cinema in it, as always with him, but the film also has problems, quite a few. But it's still quite enjoyable I guess.

And here are my 10 most anticiapted films of the Spring season, in no particular because I'm lazy :

Glass
I love Shyamalan's work, even when it's flawed. Unbreakable and Split are two of his best films, so I'm very curious to see this one.

The Lego Movie 2
The first one was such a blast, even if I didn't like the Batman one and didn't cafer for Ninjago, this is more promising.

The Kid who would be king
Finally a new film from Cornish. Attack the block is a classic now, so I'd watch anything from him.

Us
Get Out was great cinema, and the trailer for Us indicates Peele probably has another masterful film in his hands.

Where'd you go Bernadette ?
I don't love all the films from Linklater, but most of them, so his name alone is enough to convince me to keep an eye on this one.

The Beach Bum
This looks crazy. And I love crazy.

Captive State
Rupert Wyatt relaunched the new Planet of the Apes with such talent, I'm eager to see him tackle the "alien invasion" genre.

Bird of Passage
Embrace of the Serpent was a fascinating film, and his new one has some fantastic word of mouth. Can't wait.

Ash is purest white
Jia Zhang-ke is one of the great names of today's Chinese cinema, and even if his films are hit-or-miss with me, I'm always hapy to discover them.
