Chien, anything there that intrigues you?

A shame about the Netflix feud. I'd love to see Saulnier's film on a big screen. Or Orson Welles!!

Of the competition titles, the only ones that interest me are: Cold War, Under the Silver Lake, and Girls of the Sun. Plenty other films from big directors but none essential.

Directors Fortnight and Critics Week coming soon.

I'm jealous of anyone that gets to experience a Spike Lee joint with a Cannes audience. That screening is going to be beautiful chaos.

Six, I think the bigger shame is that lawsuit that prevented The Man Who Killed Don Quixote from being selected. Hopefully, things get sorted out for the fall festivals.

And Malick's new film must not be ready yet (it was pulled from Toronto last year as it was in post). Also, I expected we'd finally see Going Places premiere (its lack of appearance anywhere continues to suggest that The Coen Brothers are blocking its release).

Tranny, not all of Lee's films are Do the Right Thing. I'd expect a rather staid affair here.

Going Places may appear as an out of competition screening, as there are some left to be announced. Can see the Coens blocking it now if they allowed it to be made.

Well aware, but a film about a black cop infliatrating a chapter of the KKK is a near-lock to generate a wildly polarizing reaction, especially from the passionate audience that this festival attracts.

I wouldn't say passionate. They're just snobby and grumpy about SVODs

Cannes isn't the Deep South.

Appreciate the geography lesson, but I'd still be surprised if the film didn't evoke a strong reaction from a majority of the screening attendees

Oh yes.
In competition, I'm craving for "Burning" by Lee Chang-dong, who is one of the greatest Korean directors of this century, and one of my most expected films of the year.
Japanese director Hamaguchi had a strong reputation with his previous film which is getting released here in May, so I'll keep an eye on his new one too. Under the silver Lake obviously. I've heard great things about the film by Christophe Honoré, Sorry Angel. And I'm always curious about Kore-eda Hirokazu and Jia Zhang-ke.

In Un Certain regard, the hottest title is "Long day's journey in to the night". The rumour surrounding it is huge, definitely a must-see.

And the Korean film in Midnight Screening is from a good director who usually makes strong popular films. This one is a 90's set espionnage thriller between North and South Korea starring the shaman from The Wailing and the shadowy uncle from The Handmaiden. Very curious to see it.

I hope the two Korean films will screen while I'm there, so I can try and get an invitation.

Of course, Burning! That's a must see. Poetry was such a great movie.

Also curious about Leto. I really liked The Student. Also, kinda cool seeing a film by a director who's under house arrest.

Yes ! And if you haven't seen them, you have to watch his previous, Secret Sunshine, Oasis, Peppermint Candy... This is all fantastic cinema. I hope Burning is on the same level.

Indeed. Between him and Panahi who cannot leave the country, it's gonna be a festival without filmmakers !!

Nothing here particularly excites although there's a lot of new talent. Fuga is the only one I'd like to see at this point in time.

I'm very curious about the opening and closing films. i don't know anything about the others.
