Worst Sequels Of All-Time (Batman and Robin Wins)
The Summer movie season is coming up and you know what that means? Sequels. From May to August, moviegoers will see at least ten sequels coming to theatres (such as sequels to Iron Man and Sex and the City, third installments to Toy Story and Twilight, a fourth Shrek and even a sixth chapter in Romero's Dead series).
Anyways, I decided that it might be fitting to do a tournament on the worst sequels of all time. Yes, we have great sequels (such as The Dark Knight) and good sequels (such as Shrek 2) but most sequels are usually bad or unneeded. The objective will be to nominate ten bad sequels in a big tournament with the bells and whistles.
My nominees for worst sequels:
Batman and Robin
Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen
The Matrix Reloaded
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
Spider-Man 3
RoboCop 3
Fast and Furious
xXx: State Of The Union
Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over
Superman III

I'll leave it at that, though there are probably many, many more. And to be honest many of the sequels in my list were bad original movies in the first place.

Sorry, I didn't realise there was a limit, I was just thinking of movies off the top of my head. And a couple six and yourself have nominated since were on my list.

Re: Worst Sequels Of All-Time
Elektra's not a sequel. It's a separate comic, that happens to be in the Daredevil movie too.

Re: Worst Sequels Of All-Time
I consider it a sequel since it's set in the same universe and Jennifer Garner appeared in both films as Elektra (though in Elektra, her costume was more accurate). Also, the film's opening directly references the end of Daredevil (as in, they show how Elektra came back to life in an scene takes place shortly after Daredevil defeats Kingpin while Elektra is thought dead in the first one).
Kind of like how The Incredible Hulk is actually a sequel to The Hulk since it directly references the first film's events.

Re: Worst Sequels Of All-Time
So what's worse: a bad sequel to a great movie or a really bad sequel to a movie that was shitty to begin with?
Surprised no one mentioned T3 yet.

Re: Worst Sequels Of All-Time
In terms of general pain: sequels to movies that sucked to begin with.
In terms of having your dreams and happy memories kicked in the nuts, shat upon and thrown from a 110 story buiding onto an old Ford Econoliner filled with half of the Duggar family who proceed to steal your sperm and produce more cult members with your man juice: bad sequels to good movies.

Re: Worst Sequels Of All-Time
Maybe you should call it "Worst Sequels (to Good Movies) of All-Time"... There are just SO many bad sequels to bad movies (not to say sequels don't usually inherently suck--but the name change might provide some focus for your endeavor)

Re: Worst Sequels Of All-Time
I personally think a bad sequel to a great movie, as they already have a decent set up to work with and if they can manage to fuck that up then they deserve all the criticism they get. Having said that, it's not easy to make a sequel which can match up the expectations of a great first movie. I think it will be more interesting to take this angle though, but I guess first we have to decide what was a decent movie in the first place.NSpan wrote:So what's worse: a bad sequel to a great movie or a really bad sequel to a movie that was shitty to begin with?
I think T4 outdid T3, so I guess it has been lost in the mix.NSpan wrote:Surprised no one mentioned T3 yet.
