Re: The Reel Society Of Film Critics Awards Ceremony 2017
Time for another Best Picture featurette, provided by BanksIsDaFuture.
Hell or High Water (dir. David Mackenzie) - It's incredibly hard to believe that a Scottish director could perfectly capture the vast, dusty open-ness of the small Texans towns where Hell or High Water takes place. But, luckily, Mackenzie had a crackling screenplay from Taylor Sheridan (Sicario) to build upon, and that's a helluva head start. Sheridan's script has perhaps the best non-Tarantino dialogue in years, from Jeff Bridges' racist ribbings of his half-Indian/half-Mexican partner to everything Ben Foster says onscreen from start to finish. The epilogue conversation between Bridges and Chris Pine is electric, two boxers seizing each other up, but over sweet tea on Pine's front porch. Mackenzie doesn't let down his screenwriter - having been to Texas before, Hell or High Water took me instantly back to the ridiculously open horizons surrounding you at all times. The film has no weak spots - scripting; direction; acting (Pine, Foster, and Bridges are an incredible three-headed thespian beast)...it just doesn't end. Nominated for 5 ReelSociety Awards, this is Hell or High Water.

Re: The Reel Society Of Film Critics Awards Ceremony 2017
Time for another featurette from a Best Picture nominee, this time provided by Chienfantome.
It took me about 2 minutes to know, immediately, watching La La Land, that I would adore it. As soon as the film starts with this musical sequence on the highway, my heartbeat rushed, my feet started tapping the floor, and my body wanted to move on the rhythm of the vibrations. The magic was working, already.
La La Land is a musical, a real one, I understood it immediately, but it's not just that. It's a comedy, full of slapstick touches, that shape the characters. It's a romance too, a film about love, but not just between two people, as it's also about the passion and the dreams. It's a film that makes you want to fall in love, to dance and sing your life.
It is, also, a declaration of love to cinema, a film about the pursuit of your dreams, no matter what, despite the bitterness that may come once you realize that pursueing your dreams may mean givinp up on something else.
I got out of La La Land as if I was on an enchanting cloud, dancing and singing, tears in my eyes and a big smile on my face, my heart beating as fast as it could. And thinking, if just for a moment, that this was the most beautiful film of the world.

Sorry to interrupt the event, Surf, but Macon Blair acted in Blue Ruin. Jeremy Saulnier is the writer director of Blue Ruin and Green Room.
However, Macon Blair wrote and directed I Dont Feel At Home on this World anymore, which you should check out.

Time for another Best Picture featurette to break up the technical categories, with Manchester By The Sea introduced by transformers.
This film is so far above and beyond everything else I saw in 2016 that it's almost comical. Manchester by the Sea is a devastating, alarmingly authentic character study anchored by a trio of gut-wrenching performances from Casey Affleck, Michelle Williams and newcomer Lucas Hedges about the different ways in which people handle grief. Kenneth Lonergan's outstanding script expertly lays out the reasons for each character's behavior in the wake of a loss and like real life, the film provides no tidy resolutions for any of the mourning parties. Nominated for 8 awards tonight including Best Picture, this is Manchester by the Sea.

You know, I was winging that featurette as nobody pput themselves forward for it, and I kind of knew all along that Blair was the actor in it but couldn't be bothered researching further to actually remember the director's name! That'll show me for rushing things!! Will definitely check out Blair's actual movie though!!numbersix wrote:Sorry to interrupt the event, Surf, but Macon Blair acted in Blue Ruin.
