MOST ANTICIPATED FILMS OF 2017 (SPRING EDITION)

Post by numbersix »

A New Year, and a new opportunity for making lists, at least until Trump causes the demise of the planet.

Boosch has a yearly one up on another post, but what are your anticipated releases from now until March

Maybes: Gold, Logan, A Quiet Passion, Detour, Life
Already seen and recommend: I Daniel Blake, The Red Turtle, Land of Mine, Raw

10: The Founder - Reviews have been decent, I'm interested in the origins of MacDonalds, and Keaton. That's 3 reasons to be interested.
9: Staying Vertical - Strangers by the Lake was a very interesting, unique psychological thriller. Curious to see what this is like.
8: Get Out - Forget worthy dramas to win awards, this looks like a much more interesting way to take on race relations in the US
7: Ghost in the Shell - Feel obliged to see this, considering the backlash. I liked the original, but it's flawed, so curious to see if this will deviate much.
6: Dean - Slated for a March release, I've heard good things about this comedy-drama
5: The LEGO Batman Movie - If it's even half as good as The LEGO Movie it's gonna be worth it.
4: Trainspotting 2 - Mostly for nostalgia alone
3: Silence - Cheating a bit, but it gets its wide release in Jan. It's epic Scorsese!
2: The Salesman - The director's last two films have been great, and I bet this drama is going to be nearly, if not just as,powerful
1: Free Fire - I read the script, heard the reviews, seen the trailer, and I know this is going to be a fun shoot-em-up with plenty of shocks.

I was convinced Dean was never coming out. CBS and Lionsgate picked it up to try and get Kevin Kline an Oscar nomination but shelved it because of Hell or High Water and Patriots Day.

And I just saw a trailer for Life and the first thing I thought was, "How much more of Alien could they possibly rip off?"
Everything on this post is strictly the opinion and only the opinion of Buscemi.

Alright here's my Top 10 anticipated films of the first trimester of 2017, according to US release dates :

Already seen, and it's great : The Red Turtle, Frantz
Already seen, and it's not bad : The Founder, 13 minutes, The Salesman
Already seen, and I'm not a fan : Staying Vertical

10. The Belko Experiment : The trailer got me curious
9. A Cure for Wellness : I don't like Gore Verbinski films usually, but again, the trailer is good.
8. The Great Wall : I'm not sure it's gonna be great, but Zhang Yimou has made some of the best Chinese films from the last 30 years.
7. Kong : Skull Island : I'm always up for a big monster movie, especially with a great cast.
6. Life : I'm always up for a big space movie.
5. Free Fire : Ben Wheatley's name alone works for me.
4. Get out : Have you seen that trailer ?
3. Lego Batman : Lego movie was fantastic, and Batman was great in it. A film around him should be top notch.
2. Split : I've heard great things about Shyamalan's latest, and The Visit was really good.
1. Raw : I've been meaning to see this one for months. Missed it in Cannes, missed it in a couple of festivals in Paris, now I'm ready to see it !!!
