With two winners in a row that matched the Academy, we will take a break for a further Best Picture Featurette, courtesy of Chienfantome:

Interstellar

When I was a kid, I used to dream about the stars. I had a map of the night sky pinned on the wall of my room. And if I grew up realizing I wasn’t made to study anything scientific, stars kept fascinating me. And cinema helped keep my fascination alive. I sometimes forget that, but every once in a while, a film reminds me of it, and Interstellar did just that. It propelled me into the space once more, in a way more concrete and impactful than many things I have experienced before.
And it did that by the way Christopher Nolan managed to mix the exploration of space, of human courage, with the simple emotion that connects human beings. The film is both incredibly intimate, emotional, and gigantic in ambition. It’s a human odyssey that questions our relation to nature, to knowledge, and to time. A cinematographic and human journey that made me shiver with joy, excitement and emotion.

Nominated for 3 awards tonight, including Best Picture, this is Interstellar.

What does a Reel Society Award made of little plastic blocks look like?

Pretty predictable so far. Not that that is a bad thing. Everything has been pretty well deserved.

Steve James now has more Reel Society awards than Oscars. (do we have a thumbs up emoticon?)

Think that one can be chalked up to a numbers issue. How many of us saw them all? I caught only two, neither being this one.

I saw four (I haven't even heard of Mistaken for Strangers and must wonder how it got more votes than Citizenfour, which I thought many of us had seen and felt it would be a shoo-in for a nomination).

I still would have picked Life Itself though (it wasn't my favorite of 2014 for nothing).
