Re: The ReelSociety of Film Critics Awards 2009 Nominations
Not bad but I feel like there are a number of films that most voters here did not see, namely A Serious Man and The Messenger.
Re: The ReelSociety of Film Critics Awards 2009 Nominations
Are you saying that people should have nominated films they did not see?
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man. - The Dude
Re: The ReelSociety of Film Critics Awards 2009 Nominations
Yeah, I saw alot of movies so far from 2009 (91 by last count), and I didn't see either of those yet. I do want to see the Messenger. I don't particularly want to see Serious Man because I I never fully got into the Coen bros. But I did feel not enough saw An Education (and that too many apparently saw Moon : ), which was good but I didn't find it nearly as good as it's touted here), and maybe a few others. But, it's not like we get sent screeners or can see everything for free, so that's going to be the case with some movie or other every time. Besides, if we had those, it would be almost exactly like the Academy Awards, which I don't think we're trying to emulate to such an extent.
Re: The ReelSociety of Film Critics Awards 2009 Nominations
And I don't think he was saying that, Geez. I think he was saying that people should see those movies, and that the nominees would have been different if they had.

Aw. No A Serious Man, In The Loop or Drag Me To Hell. Looks like we needed NSpan's votes after all!

Re: The ReelSociety of Film Critics Awards 2009 Nominations
Definitely not. I am just saying that these nominations would probably look different if we voted six months from now. But we can't see everything so it is what it is.Geezer wrote:Are you saying that people should have nominated films they did not see?
Re: The ReelSociety of Film Critics Awards 2009 Nominations
Moon is definitely a surprise! Just two nominations but it gets the Best Picture Nod! Wasn't expecting that.
And you are probably right about that Starr, but like frendo said, its not like they send us screeners.

Re: The ReelSociety of Film Critics Awards 2009 Nominations
A very worthy surprise though. And it makes up for neither District 9, Drag Me To Hell or A Serious Man making the cut.Geezer wrote:Moon is definitely a surprise! Just two nominations but it gets the Best Picture Nod! Wasn't expecting that.

Moon will be getting my vote, that's for sure.
And I should have sent out screeners of In the Loop to everyone!

And there are how many people on here who actually saw Moon?
Everything on this post is strictly the opinion and only the opinion of Buscemi.

Obviously enough to vote for it in Best Picture and Best Actor. Which is probably 2....
Re: The ReelSociety of Film Critics Awards 2009 Nominations
Weren't there gonna be 10 BP noms? I know I sent in ten.

Re: The ReelSociety of Film Critics Awards 2009 Nominations
Arg. Only a handful of my nominations got any recognition. So, it looks like most of my votes are going to IB (which wasnt even in my top ten) by default.
PS. yeah, i thought we were gonna cull a top 10 best picture list from everybody's individual 5 submissions

NSpan, these were supposed to be sent via pm to keep the awards a surprise.
