My So-Called Life is proof that teen shows can be done with good writing and production values (and the original Degrassi definitely overcame its low budget at times). It's just that we rarely see them.
As for The Secret Life of an American Teenager, I think everyone was to blame for that series. And the fact that Woodley stayed for the whole run doesn't excuse her from criticism.
