Re: The Reel Society Of Film Critics Awards 2014 Ceremony
Her is a solid film, and I'm happy with this result. Her does have its flaws, but it's a progressive, challenging, and somewhat heartfelt film that I will probably watch again.
Re: The Reel Society Of Film Critics Awards 2014 Ceremony
Awesome! It was a clear second choice for me, and a very well deserved winner. I'm a very happy camper right now. Her deserves all the love we are giving it. Once again, we're better than the Oscars at recognizing achievement in filmmaking. And I finally get to write the write-up for the winner! Woohoo!!
Here's how I voted for Best Picture:
The Way, Way Back (10 points)
Her (9 points)
The Spectacular Now (8 points)
The Wolf Of Wall Street (5 points)
Inside Llewyn Davis (4 points)
American Hustle (2 points)
Dallas Buyers Club (1 point)

You can ask, Chien. And I won't tell.
Okay, you twisted my arm. It was Inside Llewyn Davis.
Damn, I don't take much persuading...

You're a weak man, Surfer. I knew I could convince you to tell me... well... just by asking.
Interesting runner-up again. I really can't wait to see Her.
Anyway it was a great night with the Reel Society of Film Critics Awards once again. Once again, thanks Surf for hosting it so brilliantly, even if you didn't take my bribe to give the crown to Prisoners. You have integrity. Well done sir

Yeah, nice job Surfer. Sure, you withheld all the booze from me, and in that sense I'll drunkenly fight you on the street, but once I sober up I will be able to appreciate the amount of work taken to collect and collate all the votes.
And thanks to everyone else for voting. Still a better awards ceremony than the Oscars.

I was doing pretty well until the Director and Picture awards were announced. All in all I agree with most of the picks.
And, thanks Surf. Great Job and much appreciated.

Re: The Reel Society Of Film Critics Awards 2014 Ceremony
Indeed, I must thank each and every member of the committee for participating in the awards, as well as anyone else out there just looking in. Without all your votes the ceremony simply wouldn't be possible. Yes I had to push and prod a couple of you with a stick coverered with an old sweaty sock on to get you to submit your votes, but I wouldn't have it any other way. The Fantaverse is what makes these awards, and what makes it so enjoyable. It takes up a good couple of months of my life, but it's also the highlight of the ReelSociety calendar for me. So much fun and always great to see just what the group has enjoyed from the past year. So all of you, pat yourselves on the back for another great award show, and let's look forward to next year's one in the process!
Re: The Reel Society Of Film Critics Awards 2014 Ceremony
Fantastic job Surfer, and great job to the voters. Looking at that list of winners, I can't help but think we did a great job of recognizing the great achievements in film for 2013. Nothing sticks out to me as a huge oversight (I knew The Way, Way Back would be a long shot to win anything, I'm happy to see it nominated). And those that did win all seem deserving (I can't judge the likes of Michael B. Jordan, Cate Blanchett or Gravity's visuals, but the amount of praise does seem justified).
Overall, I don't think 2013 was that great a year, especially when compared to 2012, but there were still a few diamonds out there, and to see them recognized here just makes me pleased as punch. Have a good night everyone, and here's looking forward to next year!

Re: The Reel Society Of Film Critics Awards 2014 Ceremony
I'll skim through the whole thread later, but looking at the recap that's a pretty good list of winners, probably the best we've come up with yet.
I wanted Inside Llewyn Davis to win, and once again my favourite pick finished second, just like last year, and my strategic voting may have bit me in the ass again. Her is a very good movie though, and much better than some of the options that were available, so I can't complain too much.
Here's how I voted for Best Picture:
Inside Llewyn Davis: 10
Dallas Buyers Club: 5
Her: 4
The Wolf Of Wall Street: 2
Mud: 1
Gravity: 0
The Spectacular Now : 0
The Way, Way Back: 0
American Hustle: -5
Prisoners: -10
I suspect Surfer didn't count my minus votes, but they still felt good.

Re: The Reel Society Of Film Critics Awards 2014 Ceremony
Great read, fellas. Part of me wishes I could have been a part of it, but I saw so few of the movies that were nominated.... like, for ANYTHING. Next year I'll try to take part, like to be Surfer's official envelope licker or something.
Oh wait, that sounded creepy. Howabout I polish his statuettes?
Crap. That was even worse.
Um... quick save... fuck the Academy! ReelSociety rules!
There, that ought to dispel the awkwardness...
