Er... riiightt. But the film portrays her as relatively normal until the events in the film happen. It is caused by something, rather than an ongoing psychological "disability". By that logic, all is Lost is a portrayal of anti-social behaviour, American Hustle depicts bipolar disorder, Dallas Buyers Club deal with autistic soicipathy, etc, etc.Buscemi wrote: Though Jasmine's disorder is never named, she does show signs of schizophrenia (the imaginary conversations) and narcissistic personality disorder (many of her choices, which destroys the relationships around her). She is also a compulsive liar (known in psychiatry as pseudologia fantastica).
The film has also been covered in more than a few medical publications for its portrayal of mental illness.

Re: Predict The Oscars 2014
But the bookends sequences clearly depict her has having a disability. Remember when Jasmine is on the plane? The conversation she has with her cabinmate is shown from her perspective as having happened but when we see the real events, it was a one-sided conversation where the responses only existed in her head and the real world was blocked out from her mind. A normal, sound of mind person would not have these episodes in public.
As I said, it's not mentioned upfront but it's there.

Re: Predict The Oscars 2014
As I said, there is a difference between psychological episodes spurred on by trauma and underlying mental disability. Don't conflate the two.

Re: Predict The Oscars 2014
20 Feet from Stardom may be the worst Best Documentary winner since Undefeated. It's not a bad movie but it brings nothing new to the table.

Re: Predict The Oscars 2014
18/24. Not bad. Should have known Gravity would win every technical award possible.

19/24. Not bad for someone who made all their predictions in January (I seriously thought The Wind Rises and The Act of Killing would win their categories).

I'm happy with 14. That's more than one correct guess per minute I spent working on my guesses.
