You all may, or may not, be surprised at what actually received the most votes for Best Picture in the nomination process. Doesn't mean that film will win the top prize, but like I said earlier, I think this year will be very, very close.

And so far I have this preliminary list for featurettes, though if someone feels really strongly about a certain movie, I'm sure we can find a happy compromise:

American Hustle - transformers
Dallas Buyers Club
Gravity - Jas
Her - Geezer
Inside Llewyn Davis - JohnErle
Mud - Buscemi
Prisoners - Chienfantome
The Spectacular Now - BanksIsDaFuture
The Way, Way Back - Walleye
The Wolf Of Wall Street - numbersix

I'd rather not read personal nomination ballots, so I won't post mine. I'm fairly pleased. I think Tom Hanks got snubbed for best actor, but it was a very strong year in that category. I've seen 9 of the 10 BP nominations, and I have no interest in the 10th. I like that it is wide open (the reason I don't like reading personal ballots, I'm afraid of ruining the surprise). I'm not even going to venture a guess as to what the front runner would be (I'd have certainly been wrong the last two years!)

I will do a write up on The Way Way Back or Her.

Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww !!
What the.... !!!
Where is Prisoners people ???!!! Only one nom for Best picture and that's it ??!! I'm so surprised and disappointed by that. I thought it would get more votes than that. So disappointed for Robert Redford too. The best actor of the year. Too bad.
Anyway, the rest is pretty open and diversified. Damn, nothing for Prince Avalanche, I guess we weren't enough to have seen it.
Mmm, when I look at it, I see that my favourites didn't get in, most of the time. I'm glad for Mud, Inside Llewyn Davis. Gravity is no surprise but I'm still glad. Overall those are very solid nominations still, but still different from what I expected, or should I say hope.

I'm with you on Prisoners, I expected way more than 1 nomination given the amount of love it got on here.

Prisoners had a few very vocal supporters, but also some vocal critics, myself included. It looks like the silent majority either didn't see it or didn't like it.

For me, it's easily the worst movie among the final 10, by a wide margin.

And that's the exact opposite for me ;)

Anyway, the two films that would have suited the best to write a little text about were already taken, and I haven't seen neither Her no Dallas Buyers Club, so I guess I don't have a choice and must write a piece about The Spectacular Now.

You could just decline to write one... It's not imperative that you do.

Out of the ones left, I loved both Her and The Spectacular Now so I can do either one or both.

If you wanto to do a piece on Prisoners, Chien, you can happily take it off my hands. I'll be busy enough with the Awards themselves, so it's all yours if you want it.

And I'll put Geezer down for The Way, Way Back and Banks down for The Spectacular Now for the moment, see if we can drum up interest in Her from anyone else remaining before lumbering both on you.

And regarding Prisoners, while trying not to reveal the voting process too much, I agree with John, in that it had a very supportive minority. It seemed to gain about the same number of votes in each of the categories, which turned out to be one vote short to gain a nomination. Due to the fact Best Picture has 10 nominees, I suspect that is why that number of votes was enough to earn a nomination in that category. I'd have loved to see it represented a little more, it was my favourite film of last year, but that's how it goes sometimes.

I honestly have no problem with you writing the piece on Prisoners Surfer. I know it's your favourite film of the bunch too. Now if it relieves you I'll be glad indeed to write about it.

I was only going to do a write up if no-one else put their name forward. I would certainly appreciate you taking the honours if you're willing, Chien.

Geez if you could do the write-up for Her (I haven't seen it yet.) I could do The Way, Way Back. Although, I'm not really sure what I'm signing up for :)
