That was my first reaction too. American Hustle and Wolf of Wall Street are comedies?

Well it was either that or Tyler Perry's Latest Whatever or and Adam Sandler vehicle (more than likely a Lada of some sort).

Though from what I hear Wolf is darkly hilarious and quite twisted.

Enough Said should have been in there over three "are they really comedies?" in American Hustle, Inside Llewyn Davis and The Wolf of Wall Street. And even though it's more of a psychological drama, I'm surprised there wasn't an attempt to get Blue Jasmine in there. After all, these are the same people who declared Vicky Cristina Barcelona a comedy.

This category wouldn't be a complete joke if they simply removed their rule against animated features competing in it. Frozen could have easily gotten in.

And speaking of animation, The Croods over Monsters University? And no The Wind Rises (which has been dominating the category everywhere else)?

I'm pretty sure "Inside Llewyn Davis" is in there for the "musical" side of it, even though it's not a musical...

CBS Films barely knows how to distribute a movie, so they obviously haven't figured out how to mount an Oscar campaign yet. What a shame.

Other than that snub, no glaring omissions or huge surprises I can see.

Inside Llewyn Davis, Prisoners and All is Lost are the 3 films I wish had gotten the nominations they deserved.
But I can't say I'm surprised since every year it's more or less the same. It's always more about licking boots than making the best films.

Oscar Isaac and Robert Redford should have been nominated. At least one of them. And Llewyn Davis should have gotten a nom in Best Song.
One of the surprises is Pixar getting shut out of the Animation comp. And The Gransmaster getting a couple of noms, but not Best Foreign Language Film.

When I think of it the biggest surprise is probably that "The Butler" didn't get a single nomination.

The Butler was also snubbed by The Golden Globes so it seemed like a longshot at the Oscars. Maybe Harvey W. decided the Butler had already made lots of money and he put all his energy into pimping for Philomena.

And I totally agree that All Is Lost deserved to be in the mix, although it felt like a long shot. I can't agree with you on Prisoners, though. I think it's received all the awards buzz it deserves.

On Prisoners, I think Jackman was at least as good as Bale or Bruce Dern, if not better. At least it got cinematography.

No Llewyn Davis? I wasn't a fan of it, but was rooting for a John Goodman three peat.

The one point I'll concede in Prisoners' favour is that Jackman was very good, although there were times when I thought he verged on showboat acting with a capital A.

It was a very crowded year in the Best Actor category, and if anyone got snubbed it was Oscar Isaac. The Academy is usually impressed by people who can act AND sing, so I can only conclude that not enough Academy members saw it.

I thought Fruitvale Station might sneak in for Screenplay.

I knew it wouldn't happen, but Joaquin Phoenix for Her was better than Bale in American Hustle. And another year, another David O. Russell film gets nods in every major category. American Hustle was fantastic, but I think Jennifer Lawrence and Bale rode the wave of the overall film to nominations.

In my eyes Prisoners deserved almost every category from direction to supporting actor Gyllenhaal. And it wholy deserves the cinematography nom.

If you'd bet me last year that the next Jackass movie would not only be nominated for zero Razzies, but actually an Oscar I'd have laughed at you.
