It's funny that you say I give out too many high grades, when you have more films listed on your 3.5 or 4 star list than films I will see this year. Clearly the issue is not the volume of films I give high grades, but which films I give them to.

It's not that. When giving out an A+, that means something is better than great. With the number of films you see, you seem to give them out with a high frequency.

I probably see maybe 300 or so (that's an conservative estimate) in a given year (some in theatres, some on DVD or Blu-ray, some online) and I've only given three movies this year my highest rating. That's about 1/100th right there. Add in the other 25 and that's less than one-tenth that I've given my two highest ratings.

Right, and I give out my highest grade to between 3-6 (7 last year, which was the best year in the last 15 years) films a year, so we're not rally all that far off. I just don't waste my time and money seeing all the movies that I know I won't like, so my percentage is much higher.

Considering how close we are to the end of the year, I'll just wait to put up my definitive Top 10...

I still have yet to see all the major awards contenders, as they're all out in Jan (and Her was pushed to Feb 14th. A good move, but also a pain as I'm gagging to see it). So my definitive list won't come until then.

Her as a Valentine's Day film? I don't think it'd fly in America, though mainstream America is not seeing it anyway. Maybe they could advertise it as a romance for single nerds?

Same here especially with so many must-see films for me (Anchorman 2, American Hustle, Wolf of Wall Street) having just come out/are about to come out in the US.

Romantic comedies have been in short supply this year. The market has been hungry for a good date movie with wide appeal for some time and I think this is it. Also, I think the main character being an everyday person (instead of an all-powerful superhero or person who must save the world) will sell well with audiences.

28 movies this year Boosh? Damn.

I'm jealous you guys get to see so many movies! I would be surprised if I saw 10 new movies this year. TV shows are so good these days it really takes a "must see" movie for me to get out usually.

Well, I hardly watch TV and am currently a full-time student again (most of my homework this semester consisted of reading novels). As a result, I have a lot of free time.

I'm up to 115 movies at the cinema so far this year (a record for me personally, but only achievable because I pay a monthly direct debit to see as many movies as I can), but I'd struggle to name 15 of those that really stood out. There's been some decent movies, a couple of very good ones, but a lot of average films as well. Still lots coming up in the next couple of months though from US releases, most notably Wolf Of Wall St, All Is Lost, American Hustle, 12 Years A Slave, Llewyn Davis and Dallas Buyers Club. Until then though I couldn't cement my favourites.

Hum... I will not say how many films I have seen in theaters so far this year. You would call the police and have me arrested for cinematographic indecency.
