La Haine 10/10: One of the most relevant films to be made about the past decade in the US and it was made in 1995 and in France.
Glad you loved it. An important film for French cinema that defined a whole generation and a look on French society.

I wouldn't say full, but yes it's somewhat common.

But the Dublin in The commitments is long gone. All those locations have been knocked down and turned into a financial centre where multinationals like Google and Facebook have their European HQs.

I have been haunted for a couple of days now by a movie I watched on Saturday night: The Red Shoes (1948). Didn't have any expectations going in although I was skeptical I'd like it. I was mesmerized. It just left me in a stupor. I went out yesterday and bought the Criterion dvd so I can watch it again. I'm on a mission to find 'Whiplash' now because I think these two movies are excellent companions. Does Art - or the pursuit artistic greatness - require the sacrifice of all other things in it's ascent? Are all other things peripheral? Or is Art for Art's sake enough?

Highly recommended

Funny you mention The Red Shoes as Tetro (one of my many recent watches) references the film a few times.

Meanwhile, I have a feeling most of the fans of Whiplash will never take the time to watch The Red Shoes. Not enough angry white boys.
