I'm still betting on Barbie to win, as the old people movie never wins Best Picture and Nolanbros aren't AMPAS members. Also, there are way too many downbeat movies in the running, which could lead to a more upbeat movie emerging victorious.

Remember, no one had CODA winning the Oscar for Best Picture a few years back.

As for posting past results, I think it's notable here in that the NYFCC is not good at predicting Oscar winners. They usually go for the more outside the box picks.

Origin seems to be dead in the water. Despite some decent early word, it seems like the general response is that the source material was better.

Meanwhile, Wonka, which would seem like a contender in a few categories (costume design, art direction, visual effects), is running into the same issues as Napoleon: European critics like the film, probably because of the director, but American critics don't care for it. It might need to be a box office hit to keep it in AMPAS' graces for those few potential nominations.

I hope any people at the beginning of the year who bet on the possibility of Beast Mode getting an acting nomination in something win a lot of money.

Meanwhile, I don't think Giamatti's snub hurts him. The Holdovers really isn't an indie film despite its nominations here, as Paramount co-financed it. Also, the awards likely wanted to spotlight some smaller films instead of something many film buffs have seen.

On an added note, I think All of Us Strangers looks good for Oscars. Festival word was excellent and it's got Searchlight's backing.

As a longtime huge fan of his, Marshawn's nomination brought a huge smile to my face. Dude is so naturally funny and likable and that translated to the screen perfectly in Bottoms.

As for All of Us Strangers, it definitely has the resume on paper to make some noise, but all of the pundits seem to think it's going to get shut out. While that means absolutely nothing at this stage and they're often wrong at this time of year when no awards of consequence have been handed out, my lack of insider knowledge prevents me from going against that prediction with any sort of confidence.

I see someone didn't forget about Maestro. Of course, the National Board of Review is the kind of awards board that would put a movie like it on their top list. I'm also not surprised they liked the incredibly generic and derivative Flora & Son and put it on their top independents list.

Across the Spider-Verse getting in over The Color Purple is a bit of surprise. Other than that, it's more or less the expected lineup

Yes, several. Reception seems to be good, but it's kind of hard to tell just how strong the WOM is since the formal review embargo is still up.

Why did you need to capitalize almost every word?

Meanwhile, it might be time to combine the Best Actor and Actress categories into one if No Hard Feelings could get a nomination. Also, watch certain people complain about Sound of Freedom not being in that Box Office Achievement category, of which sounds a lot like that Most Popular Film category AMPAS considered and clearly sounds like an act of desperation by the HFPA.

Copy/pasted the noms from Deadline and was too lazy to fix it.

You know that the "Cinematic and box office achievement" category is silly and pointless when a movie that lost money gets nominated (MI Dead Reckoning). I quite enjoyed that film and most of the other nominees, but it's still dumb.

Wish getting nominated for animated film over TMNT: Mutant Mayhem is also a real head-scratcher. MM puts nearly all recent Disney animation or Pixar films to shame.

The Mutant Mayhem snub was actually one of the few times when I was reading through the nominations where I thought "there's the Hollywood Foreign Press, I recognize."
