I think the art crowd don't care, when it's an auteur like Stephen Frears with a good subject and good reviews, if it's based on any kind of comic book.

Well Tamara Drewe was a comic that was published in the Guardian. You can't get more arthouse than a Guardian comic. No, I think the problem was that it was marketed like a rom-com which turned off the art-house crowd but didn't have the marketing to make it popular for the masses. It sorta fell in the middle.
