Well, as of Thursday, Eclipse sits at $203M overall. So it looks like my prediction of about $250M total will be pretty close.

Toy Story 3, meanwhile, is up to $318M. Will it make the $22 million necessary to pass Finding Nemo in the next three days? Maybe, maybe not. But it's definitely going to be the #1 Pixar film of all time (dollar-wise) and probably the #1 film of the year (both dollar-wise and critically).

Meanwhile, it looks like both Airbender and Grown-Ups will easily surpass $100M. So kudos to M.Night for rebounding from his last three disasters (although Airbender took it up the ass from critics).

A-Team, Sex and the City 2 and Prince of Persia will not reach nine digits. Knight & Day will probably top out at about $75 million.

Karate Kid still stands as the fifth-biggest film of the summer. Who expected THAT?

$250m for Eclipse would be a bit of a disappointment for the studio I reckon, despite making a huge profit. That would be well off of New Moon's total. Toy Story won't top Nemo by the end of the weekend, I see around $18m, so by Monday it should take that place. Also of note, Inception is currently at 100% on RT from 15 reviews, the majority of them claiming it to be the best movie of the year thus far. Be interesting to see how that compares to its BO gross.

looks to be a pretty decent weekend with the openers exceeding expectations and the holdovers also holding better than expected.

Early Weekend Estimates:

1. Despicable Me $55-60 million
2. Eclipse $35 million (holding way better than expected but $8 million below New Moon's second weekend)
3. Predators $30 million (looking like a profit maker for Fox, Robert Rodriguez got it made for only $38 million)

BOM's Weekend Estimates

Top 5:
5 points - Despicable Me, $60.1M
4 points - Twilight: Eclipse, $33.4M (down ONLY 48.5%, $237M overall)
3 points - Predators, $25.3M
2 points - Toy Story 3, $22M (putting it at $340 million, officially passing Finding Nemo as Pixar's #1 film of all time)
1 point - Last Airbender, $17.1M (cracking $100 million by a nose)

PTA:
5 points - The Kids are All Right (by a country mile)
4 points - Despicable Me
3 points - Predators
2 points - Twilight: Eclipse
1 point - Cyrus

No word yet on [Rec] 2 or Winnebago Man.

User Ratings:
Winnebago Man - 8.0
Despicable Me - 7.9
Predators - 7.5
The Kids are All Right - 7.2
[Rec] 2 - 6.8

So both Despicable Me and Predators open to higher numbers than I thought, and Eclipse holds very well (for a Twilight movie). I'm beginning to wonder now just how high Inception will go next week.

And The Girl Who Played With Fire grossed almost $1 million in 110 theatres. Should have been in the game, Shryke.

Also, Letters To Juliet drops huge after a return to the Top Ten last week (the return to the top ten was due to the drive-ins booking it as a second feature to Eclipse).

I agree, but there was nothing I could do. The film was added too late to the slate of upcoming movies to justify it. Pretty much the same story as The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, which also was not included.

Two more notes:

-Toy Story 3 is now the biggest film of 2010 with $340 million. It is also the 17th biggest film of all-time domestically. Could it hit $400 million?

-Other than The Last Airbender (which I don't think saved Shyamalan and I don't think will be getting a sequel despite the ending stating otherwise), most of the holdovers had small drops. Most notable was Grown Ups and its 14% drop in the third week.
