Well, is there any other reason why MacGruber had better critical reviews than most SNL movies?

DHD says Shrek made $20 million Friday and is heading for a $70 million weekend. MacGruber only makes $4.5 million for the weekend.

Yes because it is hillarious and it is a shame that is tanking. Plus you make it sound like there all these Hot Rod fanboy critics coming out of the woodwork.

Even though it looks like Kites won't be getting any Top 5 points, it's looking like I was right about the Top 10 finish. Current estimates have it in #10, the highest opening finish ever for an Indian film.

Did you really expect anything from a Cillian Murphy movie? He has been box office poison since he did Sunshine.

Gee, you are box office poison after releasing two indie movies, not to mention that part in some small comic book movie? I guess Inception will bomb as well then....

Don't forget the couple movies that he was in that bypassed theatres completely.

I don't know if it's bad luck or simple disinterest but Cillian Murphy can't get a hit to save his life. And it all began when he left the lead role in Once (because he wanted Marketa Irglova fired from the project because she had never acted before) to do Sunshine. Sunshine ended up being an expensive flop ($3 million gross on a $40 million budget) while Once became a sleeper hit and won an Academy Award. And despite his cameo in The Dark Knight, the Batman series has been doing much better without him.

Also, the guy just seems hard to direct.

Sunshine made over $30m worldwide so I'm pretty sure that with dvd sales etc it would have easily broken even at the very least. Where as he could have been in Once, which, despite all it Academy Awards huzzah didn't make even $12m worldwide. So I guess if he wanted to continue this 'streak' of box office poison he should have stayed with Once...

Still he has only taken part in 3 movies since Sunshine, and as I said one of those was The Dark Knight, so I think it's a little early to label him box office poison yet. I guess we'll have a better indication after Inception...

If you seriously think that Cillian Murphy is responsible for any of the financial success/failure of any of his films besides 28 Days Later and Red Eye, you're sorely mistaken. For that, he'd have to be noticed or more than a throw-in. People didn't see Cold Creek Mountain because he was in it, nor Batman Begins/TDK. People certainly didn't not see Sunshine because he was in it, at least not more than a handful.
Tenet: Criterion Edition. Now with more Backwards Man.
