THE WEEKEND OF 1/31

Post by Shrykespeare »

Screen, because of the site's technical issues, you're off the hook for not doing a column.

Friday Estimates

Bad Boys For Life, $5.2M
1917, $2.8M
Gretel & Hansel, $2.3M
Dolittle, $2.0M
The Gentlemen, $1.8M
Jumanji, $1.5M
The Rhythm Section, $1.2M

Projections:

Bad Boys For Life, $17.4
1917, $8.7M
Dolittle, $7.9M
The Gentlemen, $5.8M
Gretel & Hansel, $5.7M
Jumanji, $5.6M
Star Wars, $3.2M
The Rhythm Section, $2.9M (yowch)
Little Women, $2.9M
The Turning, $2.8M

This will bring Bad Boys For Life almost to $150M. 1917 is brushing up against $120M.

Jumanji is approaching $300M. Huh.

Little Women should hit nine digits next week.

This week's birthdays:

James Cromwell turned 80 on 1/27
Katharine Ross turned 80 on 1/29
Ann Jillian turned 70 on 1/29
Heather Graham turned 50 on 1/29
Gene Hackman turned 90 on 1/30
Wilmer Valderrama turned 40 on 1/30
Minnie Driver turned 50 on 1/31
Happy 60th birthday Jet Li! (4/26/23)

I have to wonder if The Rhythm Section is the worst wide opener for Paramount in terms of PTA. It won't even hit $1,000 for the weekend.

Edit: to answer my question, it's looking to be the third lowest. Marci X (2003) and Nate & Hayes (1983) were lower, that we know of. The Rhythm Section will however be the worst opener in 3,000 theatres ever if estimates hold, being the fourteen year-old record set by Hoot (a movie that I actually saw in the theatre).

Hoot was a fun book. Not a great movie. Can anyone name the Marvel superhero who was in it?

I was going to say that I didn't remember Logan Lerman playing a superhero.
