Friday Estimates
Secret Life of Pets 2, $16.5M
Dark Phoenix, $14M
Aladdin, $7M
Godzilla, $4.2M
Rocketman, $3.8M
Ma, $2.3M
John Wick 3, $1.9M
Avengers: Endgame, $1.2M
Weekend Projections
Secret Life of Pets 2, $45M
Dark Phoenix, $31.8M
Aladdin, $23.9M
Godzilla, $14.7M
Rocketman, $14M
Ma, $7.2M
John Wick 3, $6.6M
Avengers: Endgame, $4.8M
Detective Pikachu, $3.2M
Booksmart, $1.6M
Gotta say, that's a pretty awful start for Pets, and a considerably higher OW for Dark Phoenix than I thought.
Godzilla's huge drop means it will be hard-pressed to reach $100M. Not entirely unexpected. Rocketman will also likely top out at $80M, which is a bit of a shocker.
Aladdin is holding well. It'll hit $250M next week and has an outside shot at $300M.

Re: Down the Rabbit Hole with Buscemi: June 7th-9th
Despite the opening, I would be surprised if Pets 2 doesn't have good legs. The audience I saw the film seemed to love it (applause at the end, which Endgame didn't have here).
It's not destroying. It's making something new.

hopefully this means Late Night wont completely flop
Re: Down the Rabbit Hole with Buscemi: June 7th-9th
It's several thousand below The Big Sick's opening ($84,000+ PTA) and initial wide tracking was weak. I'm also not sure if the previews a week and a half ago increased awareness (they didn't help The Secret Life of Pets 2, which made under a million in its sneaks).

I'm thoroughly confused on SLOP2. The first one was a massive hit, there's not over-saturation, no tv show that weakened the pull. Previews were funny, word of mouth is strong. And over a 50% drop? American audiences never cease to amaze me.

I'm not sure if the first one is really that well liked and/or well remembered.Walleye413 wrote:I'm thoroughly confused on SLOP2. Also, Universal didn't make the marketing as ubiquitous as other Illumination/DreamWorks Animation film (and there was nothing that stood out in the marketing campaign- I wouldn't be suprised if not having a gag as memorable as the head-banging poodle from the original didn't make up the difference).
It's not destroying. It's making something new.
