NOBODY'S HOME - THE FILMS OF 9/28

Post by Shrykespeare »

Okay, Banks missed his regularly scheduled column, so we'll skip the prelims and go on to the Theater counts:

Smallfoot - 4,131
Night School - 3,010
Hell Fest - 2,297
Little Women - 643 (I have seen literally NOTHING on this film)
The Old Man and the Gun - 5

Next week:

Venom - 4,000+
A Star is Born This Way (come on, someone had to tell that joke) - 3,500+
The Hate U Give - 34
Happy 60th birthday Jet Li! (4/26/23)

Little Women's apparently terrible too. I feel this only got a theatrical release in an attempt to confuse people into thinking this is the currently filming one from Greta Gerwig (which even without Emma Stone could be a big Christmas film next year).

I saw the trailer before a movie recently and thought it looked too similar to the directors' other film, Meru. But maybe it's just me (for example, A Star is Born and Blaze have to be the same movie while I don't understand how Bad Times at the El Royale is any different from Hotel Artemis).

Far as I can tell Blaze and A Star is Born are not the same. I've seen Blaze and it's pretty dull, but tells the true story of a talented musician that battles substance abuse and possible mental illness. It has some of the romance angle (the script was adapted from the woman's book). A Star is Born may be the same as Crazy Heart though.

You may have a point with El Royale. I've been thinking that for a while, but Friday the 13th and Halloween are basically the same and both have spawned double digit franchises. And there are tons of movies that seem the same but one sucks and the other is great.
Tenet: Criterion Edition. Now with more Backwards Man.
