BURGUNDYS B.O REPORT (live)- THE FILMS OF 9/9
Apologies, i did forget about this, anyways....
Last weekend we saw Dont Breathe take No.1- again, impressive stuff for a Horror movie released in August. Suicide Squad, Kubo, Pete's Dragon and Sausage Party rounded out the top 5. Honorable mention to Bad Moms, which crossed the $100M barrier.
Lets gets straight into it:
Sully
Starring Tom Hanks and directed by Clint Eastwood, this will be the weekends winner. Box office mojo.com is reporting a massive opening at over 3,500 cinemas. Steven Spielberg may have bombed out earlier in the year, but ol Clint looks like he's making something audiences will want to go watch, he's pretty good at, remember that film American Sniper?
Ok, it might not be exactly the same kettle of fish, which is why its good to look at the cast. Tom Hanks, Aaron Eckhart and Laura Linney. Hanks has a good track record, and i would be very surprised if the film didn't hit $60 Million. An opening of around $25m looks a safe bet, at $16 in Ultimate, you will need to weigh up whether this will propel you to a win against other titles in a similar price range, The Accountant, for example. Its a safe pick, if ive ever seen one, do you have room for it?
When the Bough Breaks
Sony/Scream Gems are releasing this thriller at 2,246 cinemas. September has seen very similar titles in the past, like last years The Perfect Guy ($57m) and 2014's No Good deed ($52m). I would say its got a 30% chance at beating those two flicks, a $20m opening would be needed, or even more perhaps depending on reviews. If you have space for this, i couldnt say its a bad gap filler, though the imdb rating may be a little low in ultimate, so be aware, its still a risk if you want a perfect slate.
The Wild Life
The tagline from imdb says: Just because you're stranded... doesn't mean you can't make some friends.
Animated movie, with no starpower. Stay away from this one at all costs!
The Disappointments Room
D.J Caruso (Eagle Eye) directs, id say Relativity wanted something like twice their budget from this Horror movie starring Kate Beckinsale, and they may just get it with a budget of just $15million, but probably not domestically. Coming out at 1500 cinemas, its not going to set the world on fire. Pass.
Come What May
On overseas War/Drama with the tagline: France, May 1940. Millions abandon all they have. One father searches for all that matters.
Cohen Media Group are releasing this at ? cinemas. Priced at $3 in ultimate its a complete gamble for 5 PTA points, but who knows? Sometimes risks pay off.
Next week we'll see another Blair Witch, an Oliver Stone film called Snowden and Bridget Jones' Baby, with Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth.
My predictions for the top 5 this weekend
1 -Sully $28m
2- When the Bough Breaks $19m
3- Dont Breathe $7m (will be 13 top 5 points!!)
4- Suicide Squad $4m
5- The Wild Life $3.9m
Stay Classy San Diego!
