TAKE IT TO THE BANKS - THE FILMS OF 4/15

Post by BanksIsDaFuture »

Sorry everyone, went out every night this week and wasn't able to finish a proper column this week. Please take my predictions as an apology...

The Jungle Book (BV)

$52M opening, $165M total.
18 Top 5 points, 8 PTA points.

For $28, it's a worthy pick-up in April-June BO Leagues. It has April and early May mostly to itself, outside of Cap, while the summer movies will eat into each other.

------------------------------------------------------------
Barbershop: The Next Cut (WB)

$17M opening, $55M total.
7 Top 5 points, 2 PTA points.

It costs $11 in April-June BO Leagues; it's priced right, and depending on how well Keanu/Mother's Day does, it could be worth it.

------------------------------------------------
Criminal (LG/S)

$6M opening, $14M total.
0 Top 5 points, 0 PTA points.

It would be a waste of $6 honestly.

Limited releases:

Green Room (A24)

Playing in 3 theaters, 90% on RT - but is going wide on 4/29.

10 PTA points, and only 10 due to its expansion. High priced at $5 for only two weekends, even if it wins both.

---------------------------------------------
Sing Street (TWC)

Playing in 5 theaters, 98% on RT.

Should be good for 11 PTA points. Slightly more worth it at $4, but riskier play since it's a Irish (totally never thought it was British) teenage rock musical/romance.

This weekend's predictions for April 15th-17th:

1. The Jungle Book - $52M
2. Barbershop: The Next Cut - $17M
3. The Boss - $12M
4. Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice - $11M
5. Zootopia - $9M

PTA: Green Room, The Jungle Book, Sing Street, Miles Ahead, Barbershop: The Next Cut

Think you are far too low on Jungle Book. This is going to be a monster hit. 75/225, best value of the March/April seasons.

Yeah, I see that now. My original prediction was $42M/$145M, but the buzz is building and it's definitely going to be huge this weekend.

And next weekend with only Huntsman 2, that I don't think anyone wanted, and only comedies the next, it should clean up. Even in the wake of Cap, it should do very well.

Early results have Jungle book mid-high 80s. Pretty good. But I'm more interested in BvS vs Zoo. Batman is gonna fall hard again this weekend looking around 8.5m to Zoo's 7.7m and its only 4m ahead of zoo. Just how dissapointed is WB going to be when Zootopia and Deadpool both end up outgrossing their biggest film of the year. I originally estimated a 2.1~2.2x multiplier for it but even that low was optimistic.

I put it on every slate, but even I didn't think it would do THIS well. Outstanding!
