Apologies for the abbreviated column this week, everyone. This won't be a regular thing...
This week's wide releases...
The Visit (Universal)
Prediction - M. Night's latest should be able to open to $20M this weekend, grabbing 7 Top 5 points, a 3 PTA points, before totaling out at $41M.
The Perfect Guy (Sony)
Prediction - Following in the vein of last year's No Good Deed (another black-aimed romance-tinged thriller opening in September), Perfect Guy will win the weekend, hitting $23M over the weekend, snagging 9 Top 5 points, 6 PTA points, with a domestic total of $50M.
90 Minutes In Heaven (Samuel-Goldwyn)
Prediction - Although this Christian drama will be opening "wide", don't expect it to perform anything like War Room. It will only hit $3M this weekend, with no Top 5 points, no PTA points, and a total of $9M.
This week's limited releases...
Coming Home (Sony Classics)
-Chinese language war drama, starring Li Gong-
(Will be in 3 theaters)
Sleeping With Other People (IFC)
-R rated romantic comedy, starring Jason Suideikis & Alison Brie-
(Will be in 5 theaters)
Time Out Of Mind (IFC)
-drama, starring Richard Gere-
(Will be in 4 theaters)
My predictions for the weekend of September 11th-13th:
1. The Perfect Guy - $23M
2. The Visit - $20M
3. War Room - $6M
4. A Walk In The Woods - $5M
5. Straight Outta Compton - $4M
PTA - Coming Home, The Perfect Guy, Time Out Of Mind, The Visit, Sleeping With Other People
Next week I'll have a full column (promise!) as we have 3 wide releases and 3 limited releases. That's-a spicy meatball-a!
