Safe Haven, $1.2M
The Last Exorcism 2, $1.1M
Silver Linings Playbook, $1.0M

So Oz will not even approach's AiW's OW, but it is comparable to that of The Lorax, and that made $214M total. A decent start.

Well, I see that emos can still drive a movie to success.
Meanwhile, what happened to Dead Man Down? The marketing was strong and the cast was there but only a $5.5 million weekend. In Hollywood's constant attempts to turn every week into Summer, it feels like that adult-aimed product is suffering the hardest and this film is no exception.

What happened is they decided to open it against the one movie so far in 2013 that everyone wants to see....

I personally wanted to see Dead Man Down and thought it looked interesting, especially with Terrence Howard playing the villain. But it was obviously a mistake opening against Oz. Just like Brooklyn's Finest opening against Alice In Wonderland.

Banks, are you going to enter Round Three? It's too late for you to pick Oz now...

So, what the fuck does that guy know!empire13 wrote:Call it my gut, but I'm starting to have doubts about Oz. I'm feeling some cracks forming in the foundation. Not the greatest reviews. A pedestrian IMDB rating. And, I'm not sure it looks all that fantastic. Blasphemy, I know. We'll see. I just wanted to say something before its release. I didn't want to be accused of stating the obvious after the fact (that is if it under-performs).

Re: SPEARE'S TIPS - The Films of 3/8/13
Jack drops really hard. Maybe they should have kept that summer release after all...
Beyond the Hills is a bit disappointing in PTA, fortunately there's not much competition this weekend and it can grab a few points.
