Re: SPEARE'S TIPS - The Films of 1/18/13
Marky Marks resume really isn't all that spectacular, especially when it comes to non-comedies....behold:
Ted - 218M
Contraband - 66M
The Fighter - 93M
The Other Guys - 119M
Date Night - 98M
The Lovely Bones - 44M
Max Payne - 40M
The Happening - 64M
We Own The Night - 28M
Shooter - 47M
The Departed - 132M
Invincible - 57M
Four Brothers - 47M
Pretty mediocre if you ask me...after looking at this I'm really surprised how well his comedies have done compared to the drama/action movies. Stick to comedies Marky Mark!

Except outside of Contraband, when's the last time that Wahlberg has been the lead in a non-comedic film?
Meanwhile, on the claim that Broken City has no hook outside of Wahlberg: Contraband was promoted the exact same way (the trailers even hid the main plot and focused on the B-plot with Beckinsale and Ribisi) and it still made money.

I wouldn't count Date Night as his, since he was only in a couple of scenes, but I DO count The Happening as a comedy.Brockster wrote:Marky Marks resume really isn't all that spectacular, especially when it comes to non-comedies....behold:

Glad I skipped The Crappening entirely. He's usually a good go-to guy for this kind of film. I got a fair amount of entertainment out of Four Brothers, Shooter, Planet of the Apes, and a bunch of others.

Looks to me like they make between 40 and 60 million, and this should be no different. I'd consider that a pretty good success in the dregs of January.

Re: SPEARE'S TIPS - The Films of 1/18/13
Maybe. Based off what I see from our theaters over here I'm thinking even less than that. It's in one theater at our old one. AMC owns a 12 and an 8 theater that share the same parking lot and act as one bigger theater. The only thing is that the 8 is used for overflow of huge films, films about to go out of theaters, and limited releases when they expand to their max. Either way it tells me they expect it to be less than half full at its peak... And those are small rooms.Buscemi wrote: Silver Linings Playbook should produce a $7 million three-day and $9 million four-day in its expansion.
No way it hits 12, Shryke.

It's expanding to 2,500 theatres. A $7 million weekend is less than $3,000 PTA. Even I think I'm a little high here (since the film has already grossed $41 million and had an increase this week).

My thinking exactly, Boosh. Lawrence's Golden Globe win may even boost sales slightly.

But you said a $12 million three-day. I can't see Lawrence's overexposure giving a sizable increase to a film that's already starting to cool off.

Re: SPEARE'S TIPS - The Films of 1/18/13
Wow. The Top 5 is not shaping up at all like I thought it would.
Friday Estimates:
Mama, $10M
Zero Dark Thirty, $4.5M
Broken City, $3M
Silver Linings Playbook, $3M
Gangster Squad, $2.7M
Django Unchained, $2.2M
Les Miserables, $2M
The Last Stand, $2M
The Hobbit, $1.4M
Lincoln, $1.4M
A Haunted House, N/A
Weekend Projections:
Mama, $26M
Zero Dark Thirty, $15.2M
Silver Linings Playbook, $9.8M
Gangster Squad, $8.8M
Broken City, $8.7M
A Haunted House, $7.9M
Django Unchained, $7.8M
Les Miserables, $7.3M
The Hobbit, $6.1M
The Last Stand, $5.7M
Lincoln, $5.3M
Yikes. Broken City barely cracks the Top 5, Silver Linings finally gets its first Top 5 points and Arnold barely gets into the Top 10? I'm shocked.
