Call me surprised on Django. I really thought that smaller cities were going to detest it.

I guess the Western crowd isn't all old racists after all.
Everything on this post is strictly the opinion and only the opinion of Buscemi.

Box Office Mojo has announced it's Christmas Day figures:

1. Les Miserables - $18.1m
2. Django Unchained - $15.0m
3. The Hobbit - $11.3m
4. Parental Guidance - $6.3m
5. Jack Reacher - $5.3m
6. This Is 40 - $4.4m

9. Monsters Inc. $1.4m
10. Life Of Pi - $1.3m

Silver Linings Playbook brought in $1.1m on it's first day of expansion into 745 theatres, which is still a pretty good hold PTA wise.

PTA wise:

2. Les Miserables - $6,450
3. Django Unchained - $4,987
4. The Impossible - $3,400
5. Not Fade Away - $3,000

No numbers for Amour yet.

Well, none of us always get it right. Best to see this as a lesson: we all argued against you so sometimes your instinct isn't always right. Try to find the rift between you and the general public and you'll find yourself performing even better in these games.

Kudos for clinging to Parental Guidance, though, as it looks like it'll fare well.

Early reports for Promised Land are not good. It made a Friday PTA of just over $2K, meaning it'll make $6-8K for thr weekend. It'll struggle to gain PTA points, and at this rate a wide expansion seems like a mistake.

I really can't figure that one out. It's been advertised like crazy and looks like a great movie. C'est la vie.

Well it's failing to beat the huge competition, and the poor reviews are hurting it.

This is 40, $13.2M

I wouldn't say advertised like crazy, I only saw the trailer before Skyfall. No TV spots, no print ads, nothing. Plus it's about fracking, which I don't think I will drive people to the theater en masse.

Matt Damon generally drives people to the theater. I've seen the trailer attached to every movie I've seen in the past few months. It looks like a movie older audiences would eat up. Maybe the legs will be decent into January.

It may do a bit better in January wide release, it's just got too much competition right now. Zero Dark Thirty and Amour are destroying in arthouses, and Django and Les Miz in multiplexes. With all the crap January movies, it may get to breathe a bit.
