As I said in my original post, this weekend usually sees 50-60% drops for EVERYTHING. The fact that Hugo and Arthur Christmas dropped less than 40% is remarkable.

4 openers that pretty much failed and had very little impact. Besides, Breaking Dawn was holding better than New Moon over the entire week (i.e. Mon-Thurs as well)

But four openers is tougher for a holdover than none.

As I said, not if they're bombs that no one bothers to see. And as I also said, BD has been faring better than New Moon since Monday, so you can't say the openers had an impact when they weren't out yet.

But of course, Breaking Dawn has absolutely no competition from other movies. It is currently the only film aimed towards teenagers and adults in the market. Two years ago, there was far more competition for the same audience (The Blind Side being one of those films).

It's only holding better because there's absolutely nothing else to watch.

I'm pretty sure one of the reasons you gave for why The Muppets would flop was because all its marketing had been focused towards older viewers in that range...

Fact is, breaking dawn is holding well and will perform as most of us expected- 280-300m.

Then the movie came out and turned out to be a kids' movie after all.

I probably wasn't completely truthful of the "there's nothing out for adults claim". The Descendants and Hugo are out but one's still in limited release and the other is solely for families and cinephiles.

Buscemi was right about The Muppets though, it doesn't look like it'll hit $100M like we all thought...

My week with Marilyn is lucky to get one point this weekend. What a poor PTA number from Outrage.

It's been available in Japan since last year. Most Beat Takeshi fans in the US probably just imported it (especially with the sequel in the works).

And Disney has to be disappointed with The Muppets' gross only being at $56 million. The marketing cost had to be more than that.

Yeah, Outrage was released in Paris in november 2010, it seems like ages since I saw it. And it's not a great Kitano, so it's hardly surprising in the end that it does not perform strongly, but still.

But the reviews were pretty strong in the US. I think it really was a case of leaving it too long. Still haven't seen it myself, and that's something I have to fix.
