I was going to make a smart ass comment about Busc and Banks watching Sex and the City, but then I looked at my avatar and thought better of it.

Seriously, how many Top 5 points is that for The Help? Might be the best pick of the entire year..who would have thought?

That would make 23 Top 5 points for the Help, far and away the high for the year so far.

#2 for the year in Top 5 points is Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which would now have 18 if it holds onto that #5 spot.

Transformers and Rio are tied for #3 with 16.

Also, according to BOM, as of Thursday, The Help had been the #1 film running for 25 consecutive days, which is the most that any film has done that (even Avatar) since The Sixth Sense did it for 35 straight days in 1999. The only other films to top the charts for more than three straight weeks since 1999 were Meet the Parents (24 days), LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring (23 days), LOTR: Return of the King (23 days) and Passion of the Christ (23 days), mostly because the last three films all opened on a Wednesday.

Avatar, they say, would likely have been #1 for 49 straight days had it not been for strong openings from Sherlock Holmes, Alvin and the Chimpunks 2 and The Book of Eli.

Bucky Larson is being estimated as having a $500,000 opening day and a $1.4 million weekend. Good thing Tranny dropped it from the full year league.

Ugh, $6M for Warrior is terrible. I kind of understand why people may not be intrigued by the commercials and trailers, but I thought the great reviews and comparisons to Rocky and The Fighter would help it a bit.

Honestly, I can't believe $1.4M worth of people thought Bucky Larson was worth a full price movie ticket. I'd say half were probably movie reviewers that had to pay to see it since there were no previews/screenings.

Yeah, um is that SS going all Harlequin romance with a 90's-era Paula Abdul?

Friday Estimates (BOM):

Contagion - $8,030,000
The Help - $2,672,000
Warrior - $1,800,000
The Debt - $1,445,000
Colombiana - $1,165,000
Rise of the Planet of the Apes - $1,100,000
Shark Night - $1,000,000
Apollo 18 - $875,000
Our Idiot Brother - $835,000
Crazy, Stupid, Love - $700,000
Don't Be Afraid of the Dark - $675,000
Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star - $540,000

God. Damn. It. In the BO HY, I'm at the bottom end of the Transformers/Harry pickers, and was counting on Warrior to save my bacon. I may just hold on and survive, but this means that tranny is doomed in that tournament.

Glad I dropped Warrior from my slates when I saw that theater count. Here's hoping Drive does better next weekend.

Creature does $100,000 on opening day. Its weekend average looks to be under $200.

Can't say I'm surprised. There was absolutely no marketing on it.

geezer I wouldn't hold my breath on Drive. My theater is getting it next week and so far this year every movie they have given us has underperformed. Example: Green Lantern, Don't be afraid of the dark, The Debt, Creature, One Day, Spy kids. I could go on but needless to say if I see that my theater is getting a movie I drop it from my slates as soon as I can.

also Creature did 4 people yesterday. made 35$ total
