Hard to believe we are in a day and age where not getting to 300M is a disappointment, damn!

Let's also keep in mind that just because a movie doesn't make as much here in the U.S. as expected, it can still be a success...see Pirates of the Caribbean 4 for a perfect example. Worldwide box office is becoming a major factor in greenlighting some of these movies.

Well, everyone knew Toy Story 3 was going to blow everything out of the water, but Up was a big surprise. The original Cars made around $250M, and all of Pixar's other films usually top out between $200-$240, so I wouldn't say $300M is the bar for Cars 2 to be judged on.

MTC is only tracking Cars at 65M...I would think this may have to do w/ KFP2's modest numbers...just my opinion though. Kid's movies are hard to track.

BTW, they are also tracking Bad Teacher at 25M!!

I don't get Cameron Diaz's appeal...at all. I don't think she's pretty and I don't think she's a good actress. She must be able to suck a golfball through a hose or something.

All of the previews I see on TV focus on her for almost the entire preview...it makes me not want to see the movie...at all

I really can't see audiences wanting to see a film with such a vapid, unlikeable main character (and with tenure being such a major issue with schools, it would probably be too horrifying for audiences to see the type of teachers that keep their jobs despite utter incompetence). Also, the film has been getting bad word-of-mouth in the UK.

well, while i'm in the minority and I dont really think Cameron Diaz is hot or anything, she seems like a fun person to hang out with and i can't think of a movie of hers that i haven't enjoyed. That's the best i can explain it

Current ratings:

Cars 2 52% (seriously, it can't be that bad)
Bad Teacher 51%

And to think that other than Cars, Pixar doesn't have a movie on its roster at less than 91%. I think thats an indicator as to how bad the movie must be.

I think the review will affect Cars 2's legs, but only when it comes to adults, obviously. I still see it opening to about 70 mil and closing around 250mil or so.

I agree, I don't think Cars' reviews will affect it's overall BO really, thekids will want to see it no mattter and it's a big draw for them. More likely it will be a quick reminder to Pixar that they are not invicible and hopefully they'll put more effort into their future films rather than relying on merchandising cash grabs for their movies.

So I eat crow on Cars 2. But then again, no one is invincible.

And when will someone admit that I was right about Sucker Punch?
