Glad I took Tree Of Life and Midnight In PAris in the May leagues, but messed up swapping Beginners with Submarine in June leagues. At least my bankrupts slate is performing as well as expected. That's another couple of movies helping my cause, with Judy bombing and even Super 8 not picking up too many PTAs or BO. Shame, as otherwise I'd want it to explode.

I don't think Super 8 will hold very well. There weren't very many people at the showing I went to and I overheard someone call it the worst movie they had ever seen. Also, a bunch of people left before the best part (the short film during the credits).

I wouldn't base the movie's potential holds on the ramblings of a mad man. I mean, come on, he's not just plain wrong, but he obviously has serious mental problems too.

And the short during the credits is pretty damn good! It'd do well at our national short film festival competition as well.

I actually wondered why the whole movie wasn't shot in 8mm. The use of anamorphic lenses is great (possibly Academy Award nomination worthy) but shooting it in 8mm would have really enhanced the point of view and made you think all this really happened.

And actually, the worst movie ever claims came from a girl who was probably expecting to see something like Something Borrowed.

It would have been an interesting exploration using a Super 8, but I guess JJ's been burned by handheld technology once and doesn'st want to take a chance again. That and the cinematography in the film is pretty awesome anyway.

And like I said, don't take any notice of someone who is obviously delusional. And we all saw how well Something Borrowed fared....

I haven't seen Super 8, but shooting in 8mm alone has a huge problem. For all the authenticity you get you will ultimately end up losing huge amounts of story and character development, as you have to limit the camera to one character's POV. Think of all the "found footage" films and how they all lack story and character, and rely solely on visceral shocks.
