Rotten Tomatoes is a bit useless, as even the good reviews are muted, and they don't really differentiate between 100% and 60% ratings

Buscemi wrote:It would have been much more successful with Simon Pegg (who's getting a lot of notice lately and has played major supporting characters in three $100 million grossing films) rather than box office poison Michael Cera in the lead.
So having a guy who has appeared in three $100m movies as a bit part/ support or voice actor is more likely to make money (even though this has been disproven twice in recent years) than a guy who has STARRED in two $100m movies? As per usual your vendetta against Cera is obscuring logic again...

Michael Cera hasn't had a hit in a few years and everyone hates him (also Superbad made money because of Apatow and Rogen while Juno made money because of Oscar buzz, not because of Cera and the second in spite of Cera). Simon Pegg is developing into a star and has an on-screen presence unlike Cera. Audiences would have way more fun watching Simon Pegg in the lead than Michael Cera.

What would you choose: an Englishman who's full of life and fun or a Canadian who's one-dimensional and stumbles through his awkwardness.

Considering Pegg is 41 (!) and Scott Pilgrim is 23 I think the full-of-life Englishman is not a wise choice no matter what.

They could lampshade the age thing by saying "I know this is inaccurate but would you want it any other way?"

Sigh... YOU hate Michael Cera. I know very few people who don't like him. He has his limitations, just as Pegg does. And you're reasoning for his movies success' is preposterous and just an opinion, it screams of squirming out of a corner when being proved wrong with facts. I like Pegg as an actor just as much if not more so than Cera, but you're vendetta against him is getting very tiresome.

Why did Scott Pilgrim gross only $30 million? And why did Youth In Revolt gross just $15 million? Michael Cera is box office poison.

Sigh...

Simon Pegg leading roles:

How To Lose Friends And Alienate People: $3m
Run Fat Boy Run: $6m
Hot Fuzz: $23m
Shaun Of The Dead: $13m

Box office poison?

The first three were distributed under indie sub-labels (the last was shelved for nearly a year and got released after the company went under) and the last failed more because of Megan Fox (all four films were hits in the UK). Michael Cera is extremely overexposed and his inability to play more than one character has turned people off in droves (notice that Scott Pilgrim bombed in nearly every country it was released).

Surely if his films were so poorly promoted in the US it indicates his lack of popularity? I'm tired of this debate, you cannot back up any of your opinions with facts as per usual, and going back to the original point I think I've further proved how Paul will not match your expectations due to it's average reception so far and lack of success for it's stars.

As I said, it is developing. The three films of his that hit $100 million came after those previous four films. People are starting to see who he is and why he's funny (also, Spaced finally got a US release after Star Trek opened so people finally got to see the big deal about that show).

And on Paul, I said it might break out and the Rotten Tomatoes rating was Fresh. With Pegg's current success and Rogen's history, it could make money. Also, American audiences seem to accept this type of movie more than international audiences (see Zombieland).

Nevermind if Simon Pegg is there or not, when was the last successful sci-fi comedy?

Anyway, I've got a copy of it so I'll let you guys know if it's worth it or not.

Early crowd reports have Hall Pass at about 60% of The Dilemma's levels, which had a $6 million Friday and an $18 million weekend. It's looking like a $4 million Friday and a $12 million weekend.
