Okay, well I don't see much in any of the films opening this weekend. It's usually a dud weekend and the selection this year is particularly poor. The best is As Above So Below, and that's only because there's nothing out next weekend to really challenge it so it could be worth its price in Ultimate. November Man feels like it's DOA, despite the claims that a sequel has been greenlit (watch that decision reverse, a la City of Bones).

I mentioned my thoughts on the PTA picks already. The Notebook might be worth picking if you're looking for a low-cost PTA option, but whether it earns any points beyond this weekend is questionable.

Predictions (3 day)

1: Guardian of the Galaxy - $11 million
2: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles $10.5 million
3: As Above, So Below $10 million
4: The November Man $8 million
5: If I Stay $7.5 million

PTA: Love is Strange, The Notebook, The Trip to Italy, As Above So Below, Life of Crime

MTC Tracking has both wide films opening at $9m for the 3-day weekend.

Guardians and Turtles drop below 30% this weekend, and the openers bomb, as expected.

1. GOTG - $12.5M
2. Turtles - $11M
3. As Above - $8M
4. If I Stay - $7M
5. November Man - $6M

I hope this dearth of movies, coupled with nothing coming next week, will leave the market wide open for No Good Deed to have a better-than-expected OW. My FY needs it.

I still reckon August and September is up there with the most unpredictable months of the year. Anything could happen next month, TMNT and Guardians were must haves of August, while i thought at least 1 mid range film would be that must have, Get on Up, Lets Be Cops, Into the Storm and The Expendables all were crappy. Oh well.

As for September, Dolphin Tale did ok last time, it should at least win the weekend. No Good Deed doesn't have the star power to be a winner while A Walk among tombstones does, its still a grey area, i think it will open behind The Maze Runnner.

As Above, So Below could have opened next week and stood a better chance

Shryke's probably still kicking back, so here are the estimates

1 Guardians of the Galaxy $16,3m
2 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles $11,7m
3 If I Stay $9,2m
4 As Above/So Below $8,3m
5 Let's Be Cops $8,2m

PTA
5 points: Love is Strange
4 points: Guardians of the Galaxy
3 points: TMNT
2 points: As Above/So Below
1 points: If I Stay

Nothing yet on The Notebook or The Trip to Italy

According to BOM, The Notebook had a PTA of $1,600. Horrible number.
Love is strange, on the other hand, was a steal.

Wow... If I stay and Love is strange should save my ass in Ultimate, where I was almost done.... at least, I hope so.

Just got back to Florida from the Bahamas, will be back in Arizona tomorrow.

Wow... good for GOTG! That's awesome, and it should win AGAIN next week. Unbelievable. $300M may yet happen!

I'm not ashamed of my Let's Be Cops pick anymore (I think I took it in every league)...turned out to be a halfway decent pick for it's pricetag. Not the bomb I was afraid of after the first weekend.

I'd like to thank all the shitty movies that have come out in the past 2 weeks :) Here's hoping it can pick up another top 5 point this weekend.

It's a correct if unspectacular pic. On the other hand, I have put Get on up on most of my August slates, and I'm gonna regret it...

I have Get on Up on about half of my slates and it's going to be an absolute boat anchor in every league I have it. Uni really blew it by letting it get buried by GotG instead of placing it in a spot where it could open well and have legs.
