THE OFFICIAL 2011 FANTASY GAME THREAD

Post by Shrykespeare »

Hey everyone!

You'll all be glad to know that the Round One of the 2011 Super Leagues are now open and ready for registration.

I'm sure most of you know the drill by now. It is very likely that barring an influx of Italian players, the field won't be quite as large this year as in past years. Still, the game must go on.

You can find Round One of all four tournaments (Ult FY, BO FY, Ult HY(1), BO HY(1)) in the Private Leagues section. The password for all of these leagues is "roundone", and says so under the league name, so anyone can get in.

Additionally, the January Regulars leagues are now open. The themes are:

Ultimate - Seth Rogen
Box Office - Video Games that Might Make Good Movies

So get in early, and good luck to all of you! (Hopefully I won't get eliminated early this year...)
Happy 60th birthday Jet Li! (4/26/23)

You know I'm in... One question I was wondering was that since there's only two films opening for game purposes does that mean that one will get five PTA and the other four PTA automatically?

Well, as of this moment, Season of the Witch is now unavailable, but Phil Ochs: There But For Fortune is still available. That's weird. Will have to send Manuela an e-mail.

And Phil Ochs: TBfF opened on Wednesday from what I've seen, though there aren't any numbers out from what I've seen.

Not yet. We have to get up around 45-50 in all tournaments to be on par.

I've just heard from akibaali, who is recovering from surgery and will not be participating until at least mid-year. kblane and codeslinger have assured me they will get in. I will assume Chien will too. Not sure about the others. But then, registration is open until Round One ends, so there's plenty of time for some stragglers to enter (though, if I don't have their e-mail address and won't contact me, I can't give them the passwords from Round Two on, so they're usually the first ones eliminated).

Here is an update on the current leagues in progress with one month to go:

Mini-Super League Ultimate Round One

Aquamann leads the way with 101 points, posting a very good slate with nary a dud. Just 1.5 points behind is numbersix, who is also out of movies, but may slip due to the mediocre performances of The Warrior's Way and ILU Phillip Morris. I think I'm in excellent shape in third place; my slate is similar to Aquamann's, except that I have Tangled instead of Megamind, Black Swan instead of 127 Hours, and The Green Hornet instead of The Illusionist. Mutard and Geezer need a strong (heh) wide release performance for Country Strong.

Remember, the winner will be determined by adding the final point totals of both Round One AND Round Two.

Mini-Super League Box Office Round One

This is a logjam. Currently in first are smee2000 and ColoredXIII, who have identical slates, including next week's The Dilemma. About $13M behind is Italian player amatteo, whose last gasp with Season of the Witch will probably keep him out of the lead. jas_8382, Brian31, numbersix and Geezer are right behind, but all are out of films. Looks like the leaders have picked the perfect slate this round (Megamind, Harry Potter, Tangled, True Grit, plus The Dilemma).

Regulars Ultimate League "Monty Python"

Current leader: jas_8382 (out of movies)
2nd place: Shrykespeare (1 point back with Green Hornet coming up)
3rd place: codeslinger (1.5 back with The Way Back coming up)
Also of note: leestu (6 back with both Barney's Version and No Strings Attached coming up)

Regulars Box Office League "Movies You Don't Want Remade in 3D"

Current leader: jas_8382 (out of films but still has Tron and True Grit going strong)
Biggest competition: probably Buscemi (who is $29M back with King's Speech, Little Fockers, and True Grit going strong with The Rite coming up later)

Shryke, I wonder if the full year and half year super leagues may work better if those who progress in each round are scored based on their rank, and the winner at the end of year/half-year is the person with the total points, and not just who wins the last round?

Just a thought

I've thought about that. If I did it that way, I'd have to nix eliminations of players. Perhaps that would work better. I'd like to know what everyone else thinks, though.
