A Fall 2015 release was aimed when the filming was supposed to begin last fall, but now that it's been postponed (principal photography only begins tomorrow), Paramount has said they aim for a 2016 release. Now I agree with you that this is a film that could/should be released in the fall, but as of now, it's more likely to be a fall 2016 rather than a fall 2015 release. But who knows...

Welll..... if Scorsese moves fast (and he can) they could rush a release for late 2015 to make it for the awards season. It's an interesting pick, Surf.

I don't know. Sure Scorsese can work fast, but when he's making historical epics, he never releases a film in the next 11 months after he began filming. He shot Hugo Cabret in the summer of 2010 before releasing it in november 2011. He shot Aviator in the summer of 2003 and released it at Christmas 2004. And let's not even talk about the production of Gangs of New York.
Silence is a heavy production in Taiwan, for a film set in 17th century with big sets with which anything can happen (like the death yesterday of a set worker showed). Filming will probably last til early summer with a heavy post-prod.
I'd say this is as much a gamble as Empire grabbing Bad Words last year. Well, maybe not.

As I mentioned, I think the rest of my picks are fairly set in stone regards to release dates, so if Silence doesn't make it in time, having Peanuts is a pretty damn good back up. But the possibility of a Scorcese movie, with all the potential it has, was too good to pass up. And as we've seen this year, those dramas in the lead up to the Oscars always throw up a blockbuster or two, so I'm hoping this is one of them.

Wow, now Silence seems like a pretty safe pick. Entourage, Pitch Perfect 2, Concussion and St. James St all seem much more perilous. Entourage was never that successful a series, I thought, and certainly no more likely to succeed than say if an Arrested Development movie was made. And that was only really that relevant a good five years or so ago. Sure it's target audience have moved on by now. Didn't the first Pitch Perfect only make like $60m? Don't see a sequel doubling those numbers. Concussion, going by it's synopsis will need all of Will Smith's star power to help it do well, while St. James St was one I considered, but I think it may be more of a War Horse, mid level Spielberg success. The Cold War rarely breeds blockbusters.

Still fun to have a bit of variety in our lists, will certainly ensure that our totals will not be too similar.

I would say Spielberg's Cold War film has a lot going for it. Tom Hanks being in the lead will help (War Horse and arguably Munich had no one with that sort of profile). Its release date will also benefit - the Autumn normally has one breakout adult thriller every year and this is a prime candidate. Plus, political tensions with Russia are on the rise so this might resonate. And as for the Cold War setting? Sure, it's been a while since a BO hit film, but you could have said the same about films set int he Middle East and look how Argo performed. And that's the kind of level this film could reach. Silence could do better, but it's only filming at the moment and may not be ready. That's the big risk.

I fully expect Pitch Perfect 2 to double the original's gross. It was a huge hit in its after-theater life, plus it got to $60M in the dumps of September. And Anna Kendrick is bigger than she was in 2012.

Concussion is my left-field pick, I fully hoping it's a 4 quadrant drama that gets Oscar attention. Plus football is the biggest sport in America so I'm guessing fans will check it out - the concussion debate has been raging for years. I'm sure they'll be advertising throughout the entire football season.

Entourage will perform like the first SATC movie.

I think the Tom Hanks spy movie will do well too, just not as well at Captain Phillips or Argo. High 80s I'm guessing.

(I suppose Martain is The Martian... ?)

Allegiant ? Surfer at least picked a 2016 film that has a thin chance of getting released in 2015, but that is bold, a film already scheduled in 2016... ?
