2015 Box Office Contest - Pick the Top 20

It's about time to start the yearly BO competition - the winner of 2014 is still up for grabs as the January figures come in.

THE RULES

Each entrant must choose what they think will be the Box Office Top 20 films of the year, in the correct order. You can only choose films released in the calender year (so American Sniper doesn't count as it opened in limited release in 2014)

Each entrant also can pick 2 "bench" films. This means that if one or two of the films chosen in their Top 20 gets moved to 2016 or beyond, the bench picks will now be activated. Make sure to order your bench films correctly (i.e. your #1 bench film will be the first picked if one Top 20 choice loses its date)

Winners will be announced by the end of January 2016, to give films that open in late December a fighting chance. The winner will be the person with the most dollars earned by then.

If any two people have the same slate of films, the tie-breaker will be based on the accuracy of order.

The closing date for entries is midnight Wednesday Feb 4th.

Once you post your list you cannot change it, so choose wisely.

If you want to pick a film from January or early February on your list you must submit your list by midnight of the Tuesday before that film opens. For example, if you want to include Blackhat (opens Jan 16th) in your list, then you must submit by midnight Jan 13th. This is to avoid anyone using accurate tracking information to gain an advantage. Also Taken 3 is excluded from the game at this stage.

Good luck!

I thought about including Terminator, but based on the trailer and not overly fantastic numbers/reception for Terminator Salvation , I think it may tank.

Thanks for kicking this off, Tranny. No Terminator Fan Fiction is a brave move indeed.

Just a reminder that the deadline is next week, so start thing about getting your entries in soon.

Otherwise Tranny will be the winner by default. And no one wants that.

I did a tentative list last Friday, but the news about MI5 might change my ranking a bit.

Since there's no 7-10 day cutoff this year I'll probably wait right until the deadline. I still can't get a good read on Fifty Shades.

There is one very, very, very audacious choice in there Surf. But we'll discuss that when everyone has submitted his list.

I'll probably submit mine of Friday. I've been slowly narrowing my picks. No Bad Words this time around.

I know which movies you are referring to as surprises, but surely at this stage in their careers both Tarantino and Scorcese must be considered bankable directors, and I see $100m min in both movies, probably much more consididering the early Oscar talks of both films. Plus, I think I've put a couple of safe movies in my bench so if they don't quite make their prospective release dates I have something decent in reserve.

It's not so much about the potential of the film, but the fact that one of those films Surf is right now announced for 2016 and not 2015... so you gamble on the fact that it might after all get released earlier than expected... THAT is audacious.

Although IMDB lists Silence as a 2016 movie, I read an article recently suggesting a November release, and considering it's Oscar credentials and that most of Scorcese's recent movies have been released in the Award Season, I suspect it will be released in time. If not, like I said earlier, I have very worthy bench picks, I feel.
