Re: 2015 Box Office Contest - Pick the Top 20
But Penguins were already overexposed with a TV series dedicated to the characters, which were actually very much secondary characters in Madagascar who had only a few scenes in each, while Minions are still a rarety, they don't have their TV shows, and they are characters you find all over the Despicable movies. So it does feel like a Despicable Me prequel, and not a spinoff, like Penguins or Puss in Boots. You'll see the difference at the BO this summer

I can see where John and 6 are coming from. personally loved the first one and thought the second one was garbage. however the trailer totally won me back and I think the new characters might be just as interesting as gru and family.

FIRST UPDATE
All in millions
Tranny: 3,324 (6 Films Left)
Empire: 3,313 (6 Films Left)
Jas: 3,310 (6 Films Left)
Brock: 3,310 (7 Films Left)
UDM: 3,271 (6 Films Left)
W: 3,230 (6 Films Left)
Banks: 3,178 (7 Films Left)
Chien: 3,161 (7 Films Left)
Spectre: 3,161 (7 Films Left)
Silver Surfer: 3,161 (7 Films Left)
Numbersix: 3,161 (7 Films Left)
John E: 3,031 (8 Films Left)
Shaan: 3,031 (8 Films Left)
Still all to play for, with most of the top only having 6 films left, the middle bunch having 7 left, and the bottom players having 8. We all have 4 of the same film, so it's coming down to those last few choices.
Brockster is doing well as he's currently placed joint 3rd but has 7 films left, and avoided picking the disaster that is Fantastic Four.
Next update will be in November

Chien: 4,933
Brock: 4,886
John E: 4,836
UDM: 4,819
Shaan: 4,817

Jas: 4,719
Banks: 4,706
Numbersix: 4,666
Silver Surfer: 4,594
With only 4 weeks left in the game, Chien's lead looks hard to beat. Shaan has Hateful 8 still in play, but it's unlikely it could make up the gap.

Re: 2015 Box Office Contest - Pick the Top 20
FINAL RESULTS
As of last weekend. Forgot to post it this week...
All in millions
1: Chien: $5,272
2: Brock: $5,224
3: Shaan: $5,194
4: John E: $5,177
5: UDM: $5,155
6: Spectre: $5,138
7: W: $5,087
8: Jas: $5,075
9: Tranny: $5,074
10: Empire: $5,064
11: Banks: $5,060
12: Numbersix: $5,039
13: Silver Surfer: $4,963
Well done, Chien. That's the second time in a row you've won. Chalk it up to a combination of picking films that over-performed beyond our average expectations (The Martian, Hotel Transylvania 2) and avoiding the bombs most of us picked (Pan).
Brock came very close, with under $50m in difference. If you had Pan on your bench you might have won.
And as usual, the difference between the last few places were very, very slim.
Thanks for playing and let's see how 2016 pans out.

Hell yesssssssss !!!
In France we have a saying (don't know if it exists outside of France) : "Jamais deux sans trois", "Never two without three", which means that when you succeed twice on something, you succeed the third time also. 2016, here I come
