Re: Box Office Top 20 - Fall 2014
We're heading into the stretch drive, so it's time for another update.
Based on my estimates for films still in release, Six currently has a precarious hold on first place, but with only Minions and Ant-Man remaining, two films that were picked by nearly all of us, he's still got a lot of people gunning for him. Shaan and Chien only need about 153 million from Fantastic Four to overtake him for a share of the lead, and I only need 260 million from the combo of F4 and Pixels, so there's still a lot left to play for, and this won't be decided until mid to late August at the earliest. I currently have the highest average per film released, so my fate is in my own hands.
Among recent films, UDM and I were the only ones who didn't pick The Best Expendable Marigold Terminator, which gives us both an edge down the stretch. I've plugged in a generous estimate of 100 million for Arnie and Co. for now, but the actual final numbers might shake things up a bit.
Everyone picked Jurassic World, Inside Out, and Ted 2, so they had no impact on the standings, only the average box office per slate.
Banks was the only player to see Pitch Perfect 2 coming a year in advance, but it wasn't enough to save his slate since he was also the only person to pick Horrible Bosses 2, and he had too many under-performing titles like The Penguins Of Madagascar. And Brockster was the only one wise enough to avoid Tomorrowland, but throw in the fact that he was the only player to pick Exodus and he'll still fall short as well.

Great, thanks for the update John. I think you might be the one with the best shot at stealing the lead in the end.

Yeah, as long as Pixels makes $40M, I think John has this sealed up.Chienfantome wrote:Great, thanks for the update John. I think you might be the one with the best shot at stealing the lead in the end.

Re: Box Office Top 20 - Fall 2014
September is nearly here, so it's time to gauge interest in doing another Fall version of this game, and to see if anyone would be willing to take over admin duties from me. The turnout has always been less than the January version, so if no one is able to do the dirty work, I'll have to pass on hosting another version this year. My goof-off time at work is severely limited now, and that's when I used to do this sort of thing, but there just isn't enough time in the day any more.
As for this year, now that Fantastic Four has proved to be an utter disaster, and Pixels performed below my expectations, I plugged in rough guesstimates for movies still in theatres and it looks like Six has a good chance of hanging on for a victory after all, with Brockster nipping at his heels. These numbers are not official, but I suspect it'll end up something close to this:
Six $4,543,055,890
Brock $4,528,322,548
Shaan $4,450,053,518
Chien $4,450,053,518
JohnErle $4,428,555,890
Surfer $4,405,053,518
UDM $4,343,450,830
Banks $4,326,001,247
Spectre $4,308,553,518
Walleye $4,271,023,342

I'd be happy to, if people still wanted to play. It's basically just tallying numbers yes?

Is it just me or we didn't have any final result on this competition ?

Yeah, I forgot to do the final update, and no one grabbed the ball and ran with setting up a new version, so I guess we're waiting until January to do this again.
I'll try to do a final update one of these days, but I'm pretty sure the rankings I posted in the previous update will stay the same, at least on top.

It's a great thing you said the rankings shouldn't move, I'm gonna be so happy when it's not the case and Six is so sad about it. Hum, wait, why am I being so mean to my Irish friend ? I guess it's just the competition spirit
